Despite the passage of time, my memories of my grandmother on the shores of Phuket, Thailand remain dear to me. She wore a grey kuftan and white dupatta as she embraced the wind with open arms.

Every time I see this picture, it evokes memories of a heartbreaking event that fills me with rage and makes my heart beat faster. Nonetheless, the recollection also elicits tears from my eyes. Once we left Phuket, our grandmother took us to visit her brother in Kolkata while our parents went back to Mumbai. We spent two enjoyable weeks with my father's uncle and his sons Varun and Vaibhav who were approximately the same age as us. Regrettably, our holiday had to end since the new academic year was approaching.

As my grandma only saw her brother yearly, she desired more time w

ith him. To facilitate this, my sister and I traveled back unaccompanied. I have a vivid recollection of the incident wherein we were en route to the airport, accompanied by my grandma, her brother, and their aunt, to bid us farewell.

Seated in a navy blue Maruti 800 were we all, with my uncle steering the wheels and my grandma beside him along with my sister. My grandma's aunt occupied the seat beside me, and we all had to adjust with the luggage at the back of the car, as the car's size was small to accommodate all five of us and our belongings. Nonetheless, the car moved ahead at a moderate pace, emitting a steady purr.

Thankfully, we didn't come across any signals while rushing, but we found ourselves at a four-way junction where things changed. At 5:00am, we waited

at a signal with a huge carrier truck next to us that was five times bigger than a delusion of a car. There was nobody or anything else around. Suddenly, time stopped and it felt like forever.

As the signal turned green for the cars to go, I felt as though it was a prompt for everyone to leave. This experience brought to mind that particular idea. We proceeded forward, but it felt like everything was moving slowly. My adrenal glands secreted adrenaline, causing my senses to become alert as if there was a fire alarm sounding off.

As the truck abruptly changed direction, I experienced a startling moment. Through the right window, I witnessed as the vehicle approached me like an overpowering wave looming over a delicate child. The shattering of glass and a child's scream rang in my ears, but before comprehending what was occurring, I was struck by a piece of luggage and lost consciousness. It wasn't until panicked voices and cries brought me back to awareness that I regained consciousness.

Initially, I peered through a damaged doorway while inside a demolished automobile amid a throng of individuals. Among them was a weeping young lady who had blood all over her. Another individual, whose clothes were soiled, was promptly and carefully placed in an ambulance. This caused my pulse to quicken and my mind to spin. Following that, an unidentified man approached me before I lost consciousness and later regained it next to my sibling in the hospital.

Upon entering the room, I was shocked to find my sister's head covered in bandages as she slept. However, my mother soon appeared looking anxious before bursting into

tears and embracing me tightly. Despite being unaware of the reason for her distress, I welcomed the comfort of her loving embrace and sensed that something was wrong. Later on, I learned that the commotion had been caused by shattered windows which narrowly missed my sister's eyes by only 0.7mm (a measurement I took). Sadly, my grandmother required surgery to replace her crushed thigh bone with a metal one while my uncle suffered a fractured hand.

Even though I didn't have any visible injuries after the accident, I stayed in Kolkata for an extra two weeks until both my grandmother and sister's bandages were taken off. Regrettably, my grandmother was left with a permanent disability due to the incident. Despite her attempts at leading a regular life, one can sense the agony she experiences with each step just by looking into her eyes.

My sister has a 5 cm scar on the right side of her face despite being beautiful. The incident that caused it did not harm me or result in the loss of any loved ones, but the responsible driver was never found. Whenever I'm stopped at a green light, memories of this traumatic event flood my mind.

As I watch my grandmother sitting on her beach chair, unable to partake in the enjoyable activities around us while the sound of waves crashing against the shore fills our ears, I am overwhelmed with emotion. Tears well up in my eyes and anger consumes me as it feels like a vital part of her identity has been stolen due to an accident that caused partial disability. The very idea of coming face-to-face with the person who caused

this situation makes my heart race like a caged animal waiting for its release.

Both myself and others have been impacted by this event, leading to the valuable lesson of cherishing every moment as time moves swiftly.
