What are the characteristics of evangelization as presented in Redemptoris Missio? How might you live out some of them in your own life?
answer
The characteristics of evangelization as presented in Redemptoris Missio are in cultures, communities, and groups where Christ and the Gospel message are not known or where the people lack the ability to adequately proclaim the faith, where there are active and vibrant Christian communities, and involved in circumstances in which individuals or groups who have been baptized in the faith no longer actively live the faith or even consider themselves members of the Church. You might live out some of them in your own live by recommitting to personal holiness, respecting other traditions and recommitting to evangelization.
question

A respectful encounter between the Christian faith and a particular culture. The Church takes up particular cultural values an integrate them into the life of the Church, and it proclaims the Gospel message in different cultural contexts allowing it to 'take flesh' in each people's culture.
question
What does it mean to say that the Church is hierarchical? Why is it necessary for the Church to be hierarchical?
answer
The hierarchy is the Apostles and their successors, the Pope and the bishops, along with their coworkers, priests and deacons. They are called hierarchy because the leadership of the Church, as established by Christ, is hierarchical, meaning that her leaders and institutions are organized in a specific order. Any group needs organized leadership or else chaos would result.
question
In what way are the Holy See, the diocese, the parish, and the family related in the hierarchy?
answer
The Holy See, the diocese, the parish and the family are related in hierarchy in the fact that they are all forms of church. The family is the most basic level of Church whereas the Holy See is the seat of the Pope, being the highest level of Church.
question
In what way is the Pope the visible sign of the Church's unity?
answer
The Pope is the Vicar of Christ, meaning he is Christ's human representative on earth. Just as Christ is the single head of the Body, the Church, so too the Pope is the visible and juridical head of the Church. He is a personal sign and guarantee of the Church's unity in its belief, its Sacraments, and its authority that has its origins with Peter and the Apostles,
question
In what way is the Pope the successor to Peter?
answer
Christ established his Apostles as a permanent college with Peter at the head. The Pope is the successor to Peter, just as the bishops are the successors of the Apostles. Christ gave Peter the 'power of the keys,\" or the authority to govern the Church, which is passed down to the Pope.
question
In what specific ways does a bishop sanctify the Church?
answer
He overseas the administration of the Sacraments in his diocese and is especially responsible for the Eucharist. He also confirms members of the Church and is the only person who can ordain priests and deacons, because the Sacrament of Holy Orders continues the ministry of the Apostles.
question
What are some examples of the collegial nature of the bishops?
answer
They gather together with the Pope in an Ecumenical Council to settle, after careful and open discussion, questions of major importance for the entire Church. They also meet in synods or provincial councils at a more local level. We see a powerful symbol of their collegiality when they gather to consecrate a new bishop.

A priest is the bishop's wise coworker in service to a parish. He and the other priests of the diocese are in union with the bishop and together are responsible for the spiritual and temporal welfare of the whole diocese.
question
Describe the responsibilities of a priest?
answer
The priest's primary role is that of sacramental minister. He presides over the celebration of the Eucharist in his parish and he offers the faithful the grace of all the other Sacraments with the exception of Holy Orders. They also oversee the religious education in their parish and Catholic school if there is one, visit the sick and offer spiritual care to those in need, and oversee the work of the parish staff and make sure the parish buildings are taken care of.

question
Describe how the laity shares the prophetic, kingly, and priestly functions of Christ?
answer
The laity share the prophetic functions of Christ by being involved in evangelization, proclaiming Christ through words and through the witness of their lives, in collaborating with the hierarchy as catechists and religion teachers, in providing a Catholic voice on television, radio, Internet sites and blogs, and other various new media, and in making their opinions known in a respectful manner to their pastors on matters relating to the good of the Church. The laity share the kingly functions of Christ by consistently choosing what's right and good, serving those most in need, leading others by the example of their moral choices, by commitment to God's will in their lives, and by following Christ's example of leading through service, assisting the hierarchy in governing the Church, in the parish through membership on various committees and at a higher level by playing a role in councils and synods, and following God's call with all our strength and soul for our entire lives. The laity share the priestly functions of Christ by offering their daily work, family life, and leisure activities, if they're done in the Spirit, as a spiritual sacrifice to the Father, and by developing a life of prayer and offering intercessions for the needs of others.
question
In what ways is the family the domestic church?
answer
The family is the domestic church because it is the place where children first hear the Word of God and the call to faith, we learn how to share in the Trinity's communion of love through prayer, moral living, and serving others, and it is the first and best teacher of human virtues and Christian charity.
question
Describe how the work if the laity participates in the mission of Christ?
answer
The work of the laity participates in the mission of Christ because all laypeople are called to seek the Kingdom of God by doing God's will within their chosen work, whether it is as a parent, a nurse, a lawyer, or a computer programmer.
