• Gives you a picture of what will be expected of you during the semester. • It also contains the rules and policies for that particular class. • May contains grading scale, absence policy, or make-up policy. • May also contain overall course requirements and perhaps class-by-class assignments. • Instructor's office hours and telephone number/email.

• general education or general studies courses - Required number of courses that allow students to build a base of general knowledge before deciding on a major. (Ex. History, mathematics & science)
