Instances of innuendos and advances towards women in the criminal justice field often stem from authority figures. The misuse of authority commonly occurs when individuals don their uniforms, assuming a different and more dominant identity. Gender-related problems are not limited to men mistreating women; they can also involve women making inappropriate advances towards men or even other women. Furthermore, gender issues may arise when male counterparts taunt and tease female colleagues as a way to assert or solidify their power.
When women enter a male-dominated environment and try to dominate or discourage men, it can make their work challenging and ultimately lead them to quit. The issue of ethics in law enforcement is quite vast, covering various aspects of how law enforcement officials should behave. The Law Enforcement Code of Ethics offers specific guidelines that all individua
...ls in the criminal justice field must follow, establishing a strong foundation for positive results.
Even when not seeking a conviction, it is necessary to follow these rules. Not adhering to this Code of Ethics can jeopardize a criminal case, conviction, or the employment of a law enforcement official. The "Law Enforcement Code of Ethics" highlights the essential duty of a Law Enforcement Officer to protect lives and property in service to humanity. They are also responsible for shielding the innocent from deceit and the vulnerable from oppression or intimidation while upholding peace and preventing violence or disorder. Moreover, they must honor the Constitutional rights of all individuals to liberty, equality, and justice.
To serve as a role model, stay composed and courageous when faced with threats or ridicule, and exhibit self-discipline, I will safeguard my personal life
from disgrace. Whether in my personal or professional endeavors, I will consistently uphold honesty in both my thoughts and actions, fully adhering to the laws and regulations of my country and department. Any confidential information that comes to my knowledge will remain strictly confidential unless it becomes essential for me to disclose it for fulfilling my responsibilities.
I commit to refraining from exhibiting bossy or overbearing behavior and ensuring that my personal emotions, biases, hostilities, or friendships do not impact my decisions. I will vigorously pursue criminals and prosecute them without hesitation while still maintaining politeness and appropriateness. Fear or favoritism will not sway me, and I will never employ unnecessary force or violence. Additionally, I will decline any gifts or favors. My understanding is that my badge symbolizes the public's trust, which I promise to uphold as long as I remain loyal to the values and principles of the police service.
I am committed to pursuing these goals and principles in my chosen profession of law enforcement. The purpose of the preceding statement is to stress the importance of a code of conduct that all law enforcement officials should follow. Gender-related matters have no place in the field of criminal justice. Regrettably, the concept that "All men are created equal" has not been universally accepted. Throughout time, men frequently considered themselves superior, while women were expected to be submissive and obedient to male-imposed regulations.
Advancements in women's rights have recently resulted in gender equality. However, there are still individuals who hold the belief that women cannot perform the same tasks as men and ignore their rights. I call these people "old school
men". Gender issues go beyond a woman's ability to handle tasks that men consider difficult. These problems also arise when a male professional in the criminal justice field wishes to develop a close relationship with a female colleague. Instances like these often involve prevalent concerns of sexual harassment.
