From the things we watch, listen to, to the places we buy from and eat in!! The national spread of American media on TV includes the all time favourites:-House, NCIS, The Simpsons, Desperate Housewife's, Private Practice and more. It even dates back to the 60's with the Mickey Mouse club, which we now called Mickey Mouse club house. These 6 TV shows are in the top 10 most watched programs in their own categories on Australian television whatever happened to good old Bondi Rescue, Home and Away, Neighbours and more?

Many singers listened to today are American for eg; Pink, Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus are getting more popular by the day and sure you may love their songs but Australian singers like Guy Sebastian, Delta Goodrem and Shannon N

...

oll are getting more unpopular by the day! Just because people are opting for the singers who are ostracized by the news and such just because the media power of America is much bigger and stronger than Australia's. I mean when was the last time you heard something about Chris brown in the news?

And when was the last time you heard about Delta? The latest of the two I do believe was Chris brown and when you think about it delta has not been in the news or magazines or anything for a while now. This leads me to products and how product placement is also americanising us. I mean we see famous people drinking Starbucks coffee and junk food from MacDonalds and burger king on TV so we want to drink coffee from Starbucks and buy from burger king? well at least w

call it hungry jacks? e changed something. The point is places like MacDonalds, Hungry Jacks, KFC, and Red Rooster are all imported shops from America even products we thought were owned and operated and all by Australia aren't I mean take? vegemite for example purely Australian? I don't think so, it is owned and operated by the Americans even all the ingredients are imported there is now not one thing that is Australian about vegemite! Many a time Australia copies America willingly for e. g. ow many of us played with Barbies when we were younger? I'm sure not to many of us would have even played with beanie kids instead. And trick or treating?! It is fast becoming popular here. Seriously how long will it be till were celebrating "thanksgiving" and "July 4th"?? It is becoming a disgrace; we are already too much like America! Everyone knows everything about USA! Mention George Washington and we all know he was the first president of the US, but mention Edmund Barton and you get blank confused looks!

By the way he was Australia's first prime minister. And our language the typical aussie would say things such as: The frog and toad (road). Dog and bone (phone). Having a Barry Crocker (shocker) ? they're all purely Australian! But there has been an increasing move away from our traditional language to one which is far more shocking. Yes, I speak of the unimaginable horror of our language becoming increasingly Americanised or septic-tanked, if you will. When exactly did hot chips become french fries? Seriously.

There is nothing French about chopping up a spud and banging it in some

hot oil. And diapers. It is a nappy, people. A nappy. Disposable or cloth, it is still a nappy. And then, of course, there is all that follows on from such a term. A bag you stick all the kids' stuff in becomes a diaper bag - la-di-da. And the good old-fashioned bum rash becomes diaper rash. We do not have sidewalks. We have footpaths, because they are paths you have your feet on. We lounge around on couches; we don't couch on lounges, for goodness sake.

We have shopping centres, not "malls". I reckon we should start a campaign and reclaim our language back with all its cringe-worthy phrases. After all, why would we possibly want to be more American? We already fight in their wars, follow their lead when it comes to over-medicating and over-eating and then bingeing on truly bizarre exercise programs. We have fallen prey to their cultural invasion and now watch CSI from every corner of the States, and everyone knows where "eat my shorts" comes from.

And I am not talking about McLeod's Daughters here. We admit it and embrace it when we are being hypocrites instead of hiding from it. We have adopted their like for really bad reality TV and even now many are sitting here wondering how long it will be before their next Coca Cola, McDonald's, Subway or Hungry Jacks fix. Others can't wait for the next infomercial trying to sell us something we don't want but are weirdly talked into by some hypnotic or subliminal message as "stars" advocate its virtues.
