Out of the Seven Wonders of the world, only one still exists while the other six are represented in mini-images as artistic depictions. There is no particular order to these wonders, but they include The Great Pyramid of Khufu located in Egypt, also known as the Pyramid of Cheops and considered to be the largest pyramid in the world. Its construction took several years and dates back to 2680 BC. Made up of a solid mass of limestone blocks, it covers an area of 13 acres with a height reaching 482 feet (although some facing blocks are now missing) and measures 756 feet along each baseline. Despite some decay over time, The Great Pyramid of Khufu remains almost completely preserved and can be found on the plain of Gizeh ("Giza"), near modern Cairo.
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were commissioned by King Nebuchadnezzer aro
...und 560 BC. They were built behind 75-foot tall walls with decorative glazed bricks and had an intricate irrigation system to lift water to the highest point in the gardens. Despite nothing remaining today, the word "Babylon" is now synonymous with immorality or Hollywood due to the city's legendary reputation for sensual living.
The Statue of Zeus at Olympus, created around 435 BC by Phidias, was a 40-foot tall majestic bearded figure seated on a massive, richly decorated throne covered in numerous sculpted decorations.
Phidias was famous for creating drapes made of gold beaten into thin sheets and adorned with glass details. He also used ivory to cover body parts in his sculptures. Although the original statue is no longer in existence, clay molds found in Phidias' workshop provide insight into its appearance. Examples
of his smaller works from the Parthenon can be found among the Elgin Marbles at the British Museum. The Temple of Artemis in Ephesus is another significant piece of Greek mythology. The Greeks honored Artemis, a daughter of Zeus, as the goddess of hunting and wild animals.
