The treaty blamed Germany for the war, and striped the nation of its territories while at the same time making it pay exorbitant reparations, causing a deep resentment towards the countries who put together the treaty. Russia was also filled with resentment towards the countries of the Treaty of Versailles due to the fact that during the treaty they lost land-Poland, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia. The war torn countries after the war had been forced to have democracy, yet the democracies fell apart and laid the way to dictatorships. Some of the dictators were content in collecting taxes and making sure their countries survived, others were filled with revenge and had plans for success and power.
question
Who was Joseph Stalin?
answer
Stalin came into power after the death of Lenin in 1924. Stalin was one who when he had a plan he stuck to it and would let nothing get in his way to achieve his goal. When he took power he believed and hoped to create a perfect communistic state, even if it brought suffering and famine to his people during this change. In 1927 he launched a massive drive to turn Russia into a socialist nation. First on his agenda was to stamp out private farming; he did this by taking over all farm land and forcing the owners to work for the government for low wages. After his first goal was complete he started on his second, to create an industrial nation. He did this by presenting the nation with three five-year plans one in 1928, one in 1933, one in 1937. By the end of the three plans the Soviet Union was the third largest industrial power in the world. Due to the cost of these plans the SU had turned into a Police State, with spies and secret police keeping close eyes on the movements of the people. Anyone who went against Stalin was either sent to work camps in Siberia or killed.
question

He believed in extreme nationalism and racism. In militaristic expansion. In a strong leader, and in private property with strong government controls. He was an anti-communist.
question
Explain what Hitler believed the 3 parts or "elements" of Nazism were
answer
1. Based on extreme nationalism, in this case uniting all german people under one German empire 2. The idea the German were from the perfect Aryan race-blue eyes, and blond hair. The "Aryan" race was destined to rule and all "inferior" races-Jews, Slaves, and nonwhites-were fit to serve the Aryans. 3. National expansion. Hitler believed that the Germans needed living space otherwise known as 'lebensraum.'
question
How did Hitler rise to power? Why do you think he found so much widespread support among the German people?
answer
To Hitler the Great Depression was a dream come true, since the Nazis Party was about the worker and not the business. By 1932, Germany had about six million unemployed people and most of them turned to the Nazi party for help. This helped the party win the March 1932 election, and although it did not win majority vote it did have the most and thusly Hitler was appointed prime chancellor. He quickly dismantled the democratic government and set up the Third Reich. Hitler mostly likely won power because his people fought for the workers, and also because when he gave speeches to the people he made sure they knew that WWI was not their fault, that they were not bad people, and that they were superior to the rest.
