...hereafter.
Evaluation.
The biographic drama is based on entrepreneur where Will Smith is Chris Gardener. It is directed by Todd Black, Will Smith, Steve Tisch and written by Steven Conrad. He tries hard to figure out how to sell the device he had invested so much on that is the Bone Density scanner. Chris feels that he has made these devices himself. This is before he finds the steady job as a stockbroker. Chris is determined to make sure his son gets the best but his determination pays off when he finds himself on an unpaid internship in a very brutal, aggressive competitive stockbroker training program. In the stock broker program only one in twenty interns make the cut but with no salary at all .Zwecker,Bill(2003). Zwecker revised the article and contributed heavily on it.
Application.
Quotes:
Gardener:
have been sitting out here for the last hour trying to come up with a story that would explain my being here dressed like this. And I wanted to come up with a story that would demonstrate qualities that I am sure you all admire here like earnestness, diligence, team playing .And I could not think of anything. So the truth is, I was arrested for failure to pay parking tickets.
Jay Twistle: Parking tickets?
Employers laugh
Gardener: I ran all the way here from the police station.
Before he can receive any money he needs and must go through six months of training and also to sell his devices. Chris and his son are thrown out of the apartment now this situation forcing them to sleep on the streets, homeless shelters and making matters worse behind locked doors of a metro station bathroom. Chris loses his bank account, credit cards and as I mentioned before his house too. Chris Gardener has confidence, trust and love of his son; he overcomes all these obstacles to become a Wall Street legend. I would this in the research by encouraging people not to lose hope; the road is short for one to loose hope. Determination carries it all, no determination comes with any dedication and confidence, Trust and love also contributes to success. Passion to succeed also plays very important role in life.
In conclusion determination, self confidence, love and trust for his son lead to his success despite been abandoned by one of his loved one who is his girlfriend.
- We Are What We See: The Family Conditions for Modeling Values for Children
http://parenthood.library.wisc.edu/Popenoe/Popenoe-Modeling.html
Summary
In recent poll, it showed that moral decline is
the biggest American problem. This is because children while in pursuit of happiness ended up watching programs which are not good for moral development. The idea that we are what we see has been strongly emphasized in this article. Hence children ought to watch programs which promote good morals.
Evaluation
We are what we see is an article written by David Popenoe. He holds a PhD degree. He is the professor of sociology in Rutgers University. The author has based his claims from The Wall Street Journal, "moral decline". This article has been confirmed in some sources such as books like in the book: (Antikainen, A. (2007). Transforming a learning society: The case of Finland. Bern: Peter Lang). The article has been written recently. There are no any biases in this publication.
Application
I will use this article in my research to know how what we see influences us. For instance I will use the section where children when they get to see their parents behaving in a certain way, they tend to copy them(Antikainen, 2007). This source has changed my understanding that even parents can influence their children. This is because most parents or believe that they influence their children positively. But the trust is that they can also influence them negatively.
