The women played a significant role during the American Revolution. As men marched forward towards the battlefield to defend their country, women on the contrary undertook participatory roles such as taking care of businesses and farms, while others were busy treating and nursing wounded soldiers in war. Despite the fact that females did not serve in combat missions, they suffered the disastrous effects inflicted by the war such as rape and massacre by the enemy troops. The domestic front was a new strategy that involved women in supporting home related chores, businesses as well as supporting the economy. When the colonial government enacted the Townshend Act, women boycotted the act by failing to purchase the fabric imported by the British and instead invented their own resources towards supporting the needs of the families and the nation.

Such originations accumulated a coordinated effort and channeled their participation towards supporting their men in war. Some of the core activities of the women organizations during the revolution period included collecting funds to support the war efforts. Nonetheless, there were several women soldiers who fought the British colony in defense of their homes. These women used the available ammunition and they sometimes joined the soldier in barricading the frontiers of the enemy. Following the participation of women in the revolution, the political trend began to restructure because they learned how to fight for some of their rights especially during the post-revolutionary period. The American women realized the need for self-reliance and independence unlike it was before the revolution began
