Mr. Stumpf has served as our Chairman since December 2009, Chief Executive Officer since June 2007, and as our President since August 2005. He also served as our Chief Operating Officer from August 2005 to June 2007, and as Group Executive Vice President, Community Banking from July 2002 to August 2005.

A Pierz, Minnesota native, Stumpf grew up as one of 11 children on a dairy and poultry farm.[1] His father was a dairy farmer. Stumpf shared a bedroom with his brothers until he was married. Stumpf graduated in the bottom half of his high school class. His bad grades, combined with his limited family finances, resulted in Stumpf obtaining a job as a breadmaker in a Pierz bakery. After a year, Stumpf enrolled in St. Cloud State University on a provisional basis. He eventually obtained a job as a reposession agent at First Bank in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Stumpf joined Northwestern National Bank, the former Norwest Corporation and predecessor of Wells Fargo, in 1982 in the loan administration department and then became senior vice president and chief credit officer for Norwest Bank, N.A., Minneapolis. He held a number of management positions at Norwest Bank Minneapolis and Norwest Bank Minnesota before assuming responsibility for Norwest Bank Arizona in 1989. He was named regional president for Norwest Banks in Colorado/Arizona in 1991. From 1994 to 1998, he was regional president for Norwest Bank Texas. During his four years in that position, he led Norwest's acquisition of 30 Texas banks with total assets of more than $13 billion.[4] In 1998, with the merger of Norwest Corporation and Wells Fargo & Company, he became head of the Southwestern Banking Group (Arizona, New Mexico and Texas). Two years later he became head of the new Western Banking Group (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming). In 2000, he led the integration of Wells Fargo's acquisition of the $23 billion First Security Corporation, based in Salt Lake City. In May 2002, he was named Group EVP of Community Banking. In December 2008, he led one of the largest mergers in history with the purchase of Wachovia.

Avid Modjtabai is senior executive vice president, Consumer Lending, for Wells Fargo & Company. She was responsible for the core technology functions of the company including computing, telecommunications, and end-user services, enterprise architecture and application development, information security, technology governance, and risk management. She was also responsible for enterprise operations services including check processing, statement processing, ATM operations, ACH and wires, fraud disputes, cash vaults, lockbox, safe-deposit processing, armored logistics, accounting support for retail stores and deposit document retention. Prior to serving as head of Technology and Operations, she was Director of Human Resources with responsibility for compensation and benefits, human resource service centers, systems and payroll, finance, team member relations and assistance, talent management, learning and development and diversity. Before joining Human Resources, she was Executive Vice President and head of the Internet Services Group, where she helped Wells Fargo become the leading provider of online financial services through managing Consumer, Investment and Small Business Internet Services. Prior to that, she was head of Wells Fargo's Online Personal Financial Services, including both the consumer and the online brokerage services, and served as head of the Enterprise Internet Services Group, responsible for customer experience on Wellsfargo.com. Modjtabai's Wells Fargo career has also included management positions in Consumer Deposits, the Investment Group and she was a senior consultant in Corporate Strategy. She joined Wells Fargo from McKinsey & Company, where she focused on strategy initiatives in financial services.

Jim Strother became executive vice president and General Counsel of Wells Fargo & Company in late 2003, responsible for legal affairs for the company. In June 2001 he was named a deputy general counsel of Wells Fargo & Company, responsible for legal services for all the company's consumer businesses including lending, deposits, retail brokerage services, insurance and information sharing.
