- Accounts for 1% of all cancers in the US - Appro. 18,170 cases reported each year - Men are 3 - 4 times affects verses women - Most case effect patients 55 - 85 yrs - Usually diagnosed an advanced stages - Is nearly a uniformly fatal disease - 15,500 death rate each yr - Prominent in N. China, N. Iran, and S. Africa

- Increases one's chance of SCC or adenocarcinoma - Excessive Alcohol and tobacco use

- Is a condition in which the distal esophagus s lined with a columnar epithelium rather than s stratified squamous epithelium - usually occurs with gastroesophagea(GE) reflux

Occurs in patients with a history of Barrett Esophagus

- Is associated with the development of adenocarcinomas of the distal esophageal. - Approximately 30% are associated - May or may not have development of Barrett Esophagus

- Low in fruits and vegetables - High in nitrates (cured meats and fish, pickled vegetables) - Obesity

A diet high in fruits and vegetables

A disorder in which the lower two thirds regions of the esophagus loses its normal paristaltic at activity.

The esophagus become dilated

- Progressive dysphagia - regurgitation of ingested food

A rare inherited disorder that causes excessive skin growth on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet
