The film version of the 1966 Crimebusters meeting is led by Ozymandias. Captain Metropolis is not present. The proposed group is called the Watchmen, and like in the graphic novel, the notion is ridiculed by the Comedian, however unlike the graphic novel, in the film it seems largely implied that the group stayed together even beyond the meeting, actually working as “The Watchmen” together, as opposed to the Crimebusters in the novel, that never came together after the meeting. Then again, somewhat like in the comics, “the Watchmen” might have just been an informal name applied to the “second generation of costumed vigilantes” operating in the 1960s and 1970s.2.

We learn of the ealier life of jon. How does mr. manhattan’s perception of time, humanity and other subjects affect his perspectives/situations? explain
jons father discouraged him from following his fathers footsteps in becoming a watchmaker. Jon went to hardvard to study aurodynancis and physics. After jons redemption and life as dr.manhattan he is able to see through time with the people he talks to. he pretends to still love his first wife jane but already sees a future with 16 year old laurie.
What symbolisims do you note within chapter 4? why is the profession of a watchmaker relevant in this chapter?
time- as jon being able to fix watches he is also able to have control of time and be able to see through the past and future in the lives of the people he associates with Another theme is fate. Dr. Manhattan was created via a chain of unrelated events, some taking place years apart. He goes into the nuclear reactor to get his coat. His coat has Janey’s watch in it. The watch is in his coat because he was going to give it to her. He has her watch because he fixed it. He fixed it because a fat man stepped on it. He met Janey through his friend Wally Weaver. He met Wally Weaver at college. He went to college because his father forced him to. His father forced him to because Einstein discovered that time was relative, and thus felt that a Watchmaker has no purpose, and felt nuclear power was the way of the future. He was driven to this by the bombing of atomic bombing Hiroshima. He taught Jon how to fix watches, which is why he was able to fix Janey’s watch. And the sequence of events strays off in various directions going back to the beginning of time. Jon decides that everything happens because something else happens, and that everything is at the fault of another. He cannot find a name for the force that started this, and hypothesizes that nothing is made, that it’s always existed. He also determines that this will not stop, that it is “always too late.” to stop something. His last line was “Nothing ever ends.” And this is true. This infinity ties in with the neverending power structure. PHOTO- the photo of jane and jon is the only photo that anyone has of him which tells us that no one can capture him in time

One theme is power. The rhetorical question “Who watches the Watchmen?” sums up the whole theme. The heroes of the story are normal humans, who have taken it upon themselves to watch over the general population. The riot scene points out one thing though: These normal people are beating up other normal people and imposing the law. So it extends to “What gives the lawmakers the right to make laws?” Also, when Rorschach and Nite Owl approach Adrian’s fortress, he says “Do you think this is how normal people feel around us?”, referring to the fear and intimidation they feel. In short form, the book says that power is never-ending, that someone always answers to someone. This is important.

Detectives Fine and Bourquin are called to the scene of a murder-suicide. How is the crime scene connected to the current events occurring in the novel? Explain.
Both detectives talk about the war with the Russians and how Russia is invading Afghanistan. They both ironically talked about how ww3 will never happen. The blood of the wall’s pattern is similar to the comedians smily face. The two detectives were so used to death that they were talking about getting breakfast at the scene.
Bourquin’s reaction to the crime scene is, “Psych-outs are mostly media inspired.” Fine suggests that, “The media inspires boredem.” He argues that such an act involves a “different kind of inspiration.” How do you interpret this exchange? How does this conversation address perspectives concerning the media or humanity’s fears (war, economic collapse, energy crisis, the apocalypse), etc? Although Watchmen was initially printed in 1985-86, do you see any similarities in the world of Watchmen and our times – whether current events/popular culture? Explain.
I interpret this exchange from a real life point of view. With the mass shootings they are inspired by the media due to past events. What can be made of this is that by seeing negative things portrayed on the media more negative things were going to occur in the future.

Compare those perceptions to his conversations with his wife, Gloria, and Rorschach/Walter Kovacs. How are Long’s entries different from/similar to Rorschach’s journal entries?
At first Long seems very positive about Rorscachs recovery because Rorscach isn’t actually telling the truth about what he sees.Gloria doesn’t want Dr.Long to become negative because of the clients that Dr.Long works with. Dr.Longs entries are different because it shows some positive outlooks at the begining but towards the end long learns from rorscach and realizes what life is really like, he reflect this in his later entries.
What do we learn of Kovacs’ upbringing? How does this connect to his identity as Rorschach? How does Kovacs initially become a costumed hero? How does the Blair Roche case compel Kovacs to become the uncompromising figure – Rorschach? Explain.
We learn that kovacs comes from a very dirty household. HE wasn’t treated well as a child so he shows pity towards the children he encounters later in life. Kovacs officially snaps and becomes a hero with the Blair Roche case. After he wasn;t able to find Blair alive he lost faith in humanity.
What do we learn from the arrest and psychiatric reports for Walter Kovacs? Consider the writings and drawing by a young Walter. How is Kovacs’ drawing related to images that we have seen in Chapters IV and V? Explain. How do these documents develop the character of Rorschach/Walter Kovacs? Compare Dr. Long’s note with the sessions that he has Kovacs. What are your impressions of the note, particularly when we know the effect that the doctor’s interaction with Rorschach/Walter Kovacs has on him? Explain.
I guess we all agree that the main reason behind Rorschach’s mental instability or messed up psychology is the way Rorschach handled the little girl’s kidnapping case. that a lot of it stems from Rorschach’s childhood and upbringing and his early years with his mother, growing up as an unwanted child too. The writing shows how kovac has two living parents but actually doesn’t have any in his life.father was kicked out because he liked Truman and always thought that his father worked for Truman in some way. His picture was label my dream showing two monster like creatures linked together. The first letter from dr.long is very optimistic about kovacs recovery. In the two chapters listed we see the blotches and people sharing affection which connects to how kovacs drawing looks.
