"I haven't decided what to cook yet on this Thanksgiving morning," I say to my boyfriend. Our family is coming from Columbia, and I want to ensure that this Thanksgiving is flawless! Thankfully, Jake, my boyfriend, didn't limit my spending for preparations.
I showered and am getting dressed. He had the nerve to tell me to hurry up, as if he is the one doing all the decorating and cooking. All he is doing is getting dressed and eating, with an IPA in his hand. This morning, I have a few errands to run. First, I need to go to Ross to buy decorations for the table and the house. I also want to dress up my baby pitbull Izzy as a turkey, even though she will hate it, but everyone will love it and laugh. I bought table cloths with little tur
...keys on them, fall leafs, napkins in fall colors, and utensils. My next stop is the market. I need to find a place with good deals because I'm making a big feast. Food for Less is definitely the best place to go. I plan on making pasta with salads, as well as brownies and ice cream.
Please note that I am creating everything from scratch. The pasta dishes I am making include pesto, alfredo, and various cuisines. As for salads, I have caesar, homestyle, and avocado. I started with the pastas as they are the main dish. Despite it being Thanksgiving, when most would typically make turkey or ham, I wanted to do something unique.
Upon entering the kitchen, I was surprised to see Izzy covered in my sauce and with a face smeared in re
paste. Despite the mess, she wagged her tail. Realizing we only had three hours left before my family arrived, I decided to put Izzy in her bed while I finished everything. As I made salads, I remembered that my cousin Briana is allergic to cheese. So, I prepared a separate salad without cheese since the Caesar salad already had it. After finishing the salads, it was time to make brownies.
Everything seemed ready; tables were set up and Izzy was dressed for the occasion. Now it was my turn to get ready for the event. Recently, I bought an adorable dress from Ross along with matching beautiful wedges.
While I am showering, I wait for Jake's return home. Despite my specific request for chocolate and vanilla bean flavors, he disregarded it and brought back cookie dough and vanilla instead of vanilla bean. However, I decide not to make a big deal about it. My grandma, sister, uncle, grandpa, cousins, parents, boyfriend's family are all attending the gathering. Once they arrive, we all start enjoying the meal/food that I prepared and everyone absolutely loves it. After finishing our food, we realize that Izzy is still in the room wearing her little outfit. So, while everyone indulges in ice cream, I go get her. Her appearance causes everyone to burst into laughter - possibly because my cousin Brianna secretly gave her a spoonful of ice cream.
But, wow, it's Thanksgiving! I would be an awful mother if I were to cancel it. This Thanksgiving is certainly one that we will never forget.
