* An American who asks Henry Adams to back a business venture * He tells Henry Adams that he does not have to put up any money himself because his Henry Adam's reputation of being rich will allow Lloyd Hastings to raise $ by selling shares in the new business

* He was kicked out of suite that Henry Adams is staying in now * He hides the note from Henry Adams as a joke

* The shareholders of the business and people who had been giving Henry Adams PANIC but then in the end everything is straightened out and Henry Adams is able to return the note to the Montpelier brothers at the end of the month
