What is Solid State Drive?

A solid state drive (SSD) is a type of non-volatile storage device that stores data on solid-state flash memory. Unlike traditional hard drives, which use spinning disks to read and write information, SSDs are composed of interconnected flash memory chips that retain data even when there is no power present. This makes them faster, more reliable, and less prone to physical damage than regular hard drives.One of the main advantages of an SSD over a traditional hard drive is its speed. An SSD can offer access times up to 100x faster than a regular HDD, making it ideal for applications that require quick loading times such as gaming or video editing. Additionally, since they don’t have any moving parts, they’re much quieter and consume less power compared to mechanical hard drives. That being said, one downside with SSDS is their limited capacity; most models come in capacities ranging from 128GB 2TB whereas HDDs can go all the way up to 8TB or higher depending on the model.The cost per gigabyte ratio of an SSD may also be offputting; while prices have been falling steadily in recent years due to increased competition in the market and advances in technology, you still might not get quite as much bang for your buck compared with larger conventional HDD options at lower price points.
