What is Proper Body Mechanics?
Proper body mechanics is the practice of using correct postures and movements when performing everyday tasks, such as sitting, standing, walking, lifting and carrying. Proper body mechanics can help reduce the risk of injury or strain to the muscles, joints and ligaments in your body. It is important to understand how your body moves in order to maintain good posture and use proper technique when performing physical activities.The most basic rule of proper body mechanics is that you should keep your spine aligned with your hips at all times. This means that you should not slouch or hunch over when sitting or standing. You should also avoid twisting and turning your torso unnecessarily; instead, shift from one position to another by turning on just one foot at a time. Additionally, it is important to maintain a neutral spine position by keeping your head in line with your shoulders and avoiding excessive arching of the back while lifting heavy objects.When lifting something heavy or pushing a heavy object such as a cart, it’s important to lift with your legs rather than with your back. This will help protect against lower back injury while allowing you to move heavier loads more easily. When picking up an object off the floor put one foot slightly ahead of the other for balance but make sure that they are still shoulder width apart before bending down into position so you don’t strain any muscles in the process. When carrying something be sure to hold it close against your body so that it doesn’t throw off balance as well as distributing weight evenly between both hands for better control if possible; this will minimize stress on joints like wrists, elbows and shoulders which may cause pain during extended periods of use if not properly balanced out between both sides of the body. Finally always be conscious about keeping good posture even when walking; avoid dragging either heel along behind yourself causing unnecessary tension on leg muscles by taking bigger strides more often instead. Keeping these tips in mind can help ensure safe movement throughout daily life activities without putting excess strain on our bodies.
