What is Osama Bin Laden?
Osama bin Laden was a Saudi Arabian-born extremist and the founder of al-Qaeda, a global terrorist network responsible for some of the most horrifying attacks in modern history. He was born to a wealthy family in Saudi Arabia on March 10, 1957. Throughout his life, bin Laden had an intense hatred towards America and its foreign policy decisions in the Middle East. He believed that through terrorism he could achieve his goal of driving American forces out of Muslim countries and toppling governments that did not conform to his interpretation of Islamic law.Bin Laden’s first major attack came on August 7, 1998 when al-Qaeda terrorists bombed the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania killing hundreds of people including twelve Americans. This attack prompted President Bill Clinton to order missile strikes against al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan as retaliation for their actions. Bin Laden responded by declaring war against the United States with a fatwa calling for Muslims to kill Americans wherever they found them around the world. On September 11th, 2001 bin Laden’s plan reached its horrific climax when four airplanes were hijacked by al-Qaeda operatives who flew them into New York City’s World Trade Center towers, as well as into The Pentagon near Washington D.C., killing over 3,000 innocent people in one day alone which is considered one of the worst acts of terrorism in human history In response to these attacks The United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom which successfully removed Taliban leaders from power but failed to capture Osama Bin Laden who managed to evade capture until May 2nd 2011 when he was killed by US Navy SEALs during a raid on his compound hideout located near Abbottabad Pakistan where he had been living since 2003 or 2004 The death of Osama bin Laden brought an end to one chapter but ushered in another chapter full new challenges as terror networks continue their fight against western powers all around world even after almost two decades since 9/11 attacks happened Even though bin laden is gone now ,his legacy remains firmly entrenched within global society.
