1.) The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo required Mexico to acknowledge the annexation of Texas and a vast territory to the United States. In return, the United States paid $18 million to Mexico. Later on the Gadsden Purchase- the United States bought the rest of present-day Arizona and New Mexico from Mexico for $10 million. For the United States the acquisition completed the expansion of the United States from coast to coast. (achieved manifest destiny) For Mexico it gave them much-needed cash, and the United States benefitted because it gave them a large amount of land.

Everyone had opportunities to get jobs and make money off of the gold.The Europeans and African Americans benefitted because they had more opportunities and Freedom in California. However, Chinese labors faced prejudice and increase in immigrants affected the Mexicans and Native Americans greatly. Groups killed Indians and stole their land. For Mexicans, ruling families didn't have a say in the new territorial government. Before Californios could improve their ownership and government, they had to sell their land to pay legal bills.
