types of heat transfer
answer
Conduction, convection, radiation
question
what is conduction?
answer
conduction is transferred heat. you must be touching for this to work. e.g. put ice in your hand and it melts. that is called conduction. the heat from your hand transferred to the ice, melted it.
question
what is convection?
answer
Convection is a hot gas or liquid that becomes less dense. Cold gas and liquids become more dense.
question
what is radiation?
answer
radiation is the electromagnetic waves that give off heat. for instance, a microwave, a light bulb, or a fire.
question
when something feels cold, is energy leaving or staying?
answer
leaving
question
when something feels hot, is energy leaving or staying?
answer
staying
question
why is cold water more dense than hot water?
answer
The molecules in cold water aren't moving, and are clustered together, making the water denser. The molecules in hot water are moving quickly and are less clustered, therefore less dense
question
if a heat lamp is pointed on the table, what will happen to the table?
answer
The table will get hotter
question
which do you think is colder, tile floor in a 22〫C room or a rug in 22〫C?
answer
The tile floor. The floor was (in my experience) 21〫C and the rug was 23
question
Which of these has electromagnetic waves? a microwave, a tree, a nuclear bomb, the sun, a blender, or a light?
answer
a microwave. a nuclear bomb (yes a nuclear bomb!), the sun, and a light
question
name some types of energy (if your energy isn't on the list than congrats you know more than i do!)
answer
kinetic energy- something moving, like a baseball fling through the air potential energy- something that could move, like a book on the table, if pushed than it could fall off. it has a chance to become kinetic, but only if pushed thermal/heat energy-something that gives off heat, like a cup of coffee electromagnetic energy (light)- Light that has traveled billions of light years to get here nuclear energy-reactions that involve changes in the structure of the atoms
