Las medias rojas
answer
Author: Emilia Pardo Bazán prose Ildara is a poor young woman forced to work as a prostitute for her abusive uncle. She saves a lot of money and buys a ticket to America to escape her situation. She is very beautiful, and she can make a living with her beauty. She also purchases new red socks, and the uncle sees her wearing them. Drunk, he is mad that she spent money on herself. He strikes her, scarring her face and knocking out one of her teeth. Her hopes are dashed, and she seemingly is forced to live out her life in current conditions. This is an example of naturalism because Ildara is set on a natural course and stays there until death.

Mi caballo mago
answer
Author: Sabine Ulibarrí Prose This story is a man recalling a childhood experience. In the town where he grew up, he and everyone else, including grown men, was obsessed with this magic horse. The horse represented a desired freedom from control. The man saw the horse only two times. The first was sort of an eternal moment, and he began to dream of the horse with fervor and frequency. The second time, the horse had been tainted with black spots; they met eyes. He easily captured the horse. On the way home, the horse fell; the man felt bad, but continued to chase his dream. He attached the horse to an inescapable post. The man didn't sleep well, and was nervous to see the horse the next morning. The horse had escaped, and blood surrounded the barbed wire on the premises. The boy cried.
