Don't worry, (pause) about a thing, (pause) cause every lil' thing, (pause) is gonna be all right. (Sung) Yeah Bob, Everything turned out all right didn't it? Life really gets put in perspective when you're the only person left in New York City, in fact I'm probably the last person left in the world.

(Pause)I knew it was too good to be true, everyone was so (pause) thrilled that they had found a cure for cancer, they seemed to ignore the side effects. Until it was too late. (Pause) All that planning. (Pause) All those evacuation procedures. (Pause) Nothing could have prepared us for this.

(Pause) Nothing. But New York City was my site. I had to stay and put this right. Whenever I got close to finding a cure.

(Pause) My test subject died

...

. (Pause) Another one went to waste. Still at least they're dead and not trying to eat me. Then I had to start from scratch again and the vaccine trials continued.

I thought I must find one soon surely? I could just about cope when Sam was here with me. I'm so glad Marley gave me Sam before Zoe and her left on the chopper and...

and... (Trails off, turns away from the audience and cries. The lights go dark)(Lights shine back on with Neville walking around in his lab coat.)Sam.

What a great dog. He was my best friend. Heck my only friend. I was so glad that canines were immune to the airborne strain of the KV virus. (Pause) I don't know what I would have done without him.

I was so worried about him when we were hunting that deer and

he ran into the gloom of the darkseeker hive (pause) our relationship could have ended there and then. Stupid dummy...

he should have known better than to run into the shadow. But the way that darkseeker openly exposed itself to light (pause) I had never seen anything like it. (Pause) Desperation or madness? I wasn't sure what to make of it. (Pause) They were creatures of blackness not light. (Thoughtfully) This only made me more determined to find a cure for KV, I had to sort this out and cure it. If not for me, then for my Zoe and Marley.

.. (Trails off again and wipes his eyes.)(Neville walks over to a dummy on the stage and starts punching and kicking it angrily) Why couldn't you have stayed away Fred? (Shouts) Those clever darkseekers, (quiet) I should have realised it was a trap, the same bloody trap I used on them for God's sake.(Shouting again) If I realised this, then Sam would have still been with me.

(Pause)I hate lying.(Quietly) I lied to Sam.(Pause) I told him that 'every lil thing is gonna be all right'. It wasn't..

. (Cries)Word count: 488That was it. Sam was gone. No more. I should have died that night.

(Pause) But I was saved by an Angel in the night, Anna and her son Ethan. What a shock to me. 'Robert Neville, no longer the last human in New York City.' Doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it? No. (Pause) Thought not.

And what did they do? They took us back to my place at dark whilst I was bleeding leaving a great, big bloody trail for the darkseekers

to follow the next night. (Angrily) And they stole my bacon. (Disbelievingly) I was saving it. (Shouts) No, that is being a little bit harsh. (Pause) They saved my life and here I am having a go at her for doing so. (Sigh) You can tell I'm not very good with people anymore.

(Pause) I didn't know what to make of her at first with all her God rubbish and all that crap about a colony in Vermont. Like I said, nothing went to plan, all our procedures fell apart. Another thing that made me wonder about her was that she showed no sign of recognition when I played her some Bob Marley. (Disbelievingly) Not even a smile at 'I shot the sheriff' and not even a sign of happiness when I stuck on a bit of 'Three Little Birds'.

I expected her to recognise it and join in by 'about a thing'. But no. Maybe I was being a little bit harsh (pause) she did save my life after all. (Pause) Yeah. The more time I spent with her the more I began to realise she was right. The world is quieter now; all I had to do was listen to God.

I had found a cure. I couldn't believe it. I was so happy. I realised that'every lil' thing is gonna be all right' that's what I thought but no. The darkseekers saw to that. (Pause)I could have saved every one of them.

I could of reversed KV.I realised this mirage wouldn't happen when the flying door to the lab burst open. They were in. (Pause) I had found a cure. (Pause) And that

was when I realised I was going to die.

Shit. 'Daddy look it's a butterfly', Marley's voice echoed through my head, I wasn't sure what was going on at this point, was I dreaming? Was I mad? Or was it God's plan? I glimpsed the butterfly tattoo on Anna's neck. So this was God's plan. All I had to do was listen.

That big bastard darkseeker was back, he would not take the cure away from me, and I would protect it at all costs. I had to. All my work could not be forgotten. Not long now, Marley and Zoe...

I shall see you soon (Pause) The savage crack of the Plexiglas signalled the final bell for Robert Neville, the last man in New York City. I could see this was it. Thank you Anna. Please save the world. (Pleads) Don't worry, (pause) about a thing, (pause) cause every lil' thing, (pause) is gonna be all right. (Sung)
