It was a great achievement for women involved in government. President Reagan granted Sandra Day O’Connor a position in the Supreme Court because of his promise to place a woman into the highest court. Religious parties didn’t want a woman in the Supreme Court. O’Connor proved to be a prominent judge and reigned from 1981 to 2006 and later became a champion for civic education.

People were losing their jobs because the factories they worked in were being relocated to other countries. Factories relocated to other countries and used their local labor and resources and then shipped their products to America. It lost many Americans their jobs since they couldn’t move with the factories. People left the “Rust belt” and moved to the “Sun belt” to find more jobs and lower taxes.

Many people participated in trying to help the Earth. People began to see the danger of polluting the air and so the people wanted to keep the Earth clean and avoid global warming. Schools got involved to teach next generations to do better and help the environment. Later, the government agreed and enacted the Clean Air Act to help motivate citizens to not pollute the Earth. Some businesses thought this Act would interrupt the worth and sell of their products.

A Space Shuttle launched from the Florida Kennedy Space Station where 70 seconds after liftoff, the shuttle combusted and with it were seven crewman and one social studies teacher who died in the explosion. The Crew was ready to launch but some engineers questioned if it was safe to do so. Since they allowed an uncertain shuttle to be launched and with a live crew, it failed and killed 7 people.

By 1989, they began to protest in the streets and attempted illegal crossings over the wall to the west side. In November, the east Berlin government allowed citizens with special permission to cross to the west. Thousands then passed the border but security couldn’t will themselves to stop them by force. Reagan helped bring down the wall and unite the Eastern and Western sides of Berlin.
