Personal identity is an important concept that is closely connected to the idea of self. It refers to the qualities and characteristics that make a person unique, such as their appearance, thoughts, beliefs, values, personality traits, behaviors and experiences. Personal identity can be shaped by many different factors including family background and upbringing, culture, religion or spirituality and physical environment. One’s personal identity is largely formed through their relationships with other people. Interactions with friends and family are especially influential in defining a sense of self from an early age. As these individuals grow up they also become influenced by how others view them – which may shape their self-esteem – as well as how society defines them based on classifications such as gender or race.An individual’s personal identity can go through changes over the course of their life due to various influences such as new experiences or even traumatic events. These changes can be both positive (such as growing more confident) or negative (feeling alienated from one’s peers). Everyone takes different paths in life but it’s important to remember that no matter what happens your personal identity will remain core to who you are at heart.
