The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the most complex and intractable issues in world politics. It has been an ongoing struggle for over 70 years, with roots that are deeply ingrained in religious, cultural, political and economic factors. The primary source of contention between Israelis and Palestinians is control of land ” specifically the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967. This dispute has caused violence, displacement and suffering on both sides, while also contributing to regional instability and preventing a peaceful resolution to the conflict. At its core, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is about two peoples who lay claim to a small plot of land in what is now known as Israel. In 1948, when Israel declared independence from British rule it was immediately recognized by other countries around the world but not by neighboring Arab states including Egypt, Jordan and Syria. This led to war in 1948 with these Arab states which resulted in Israel gaining territory beyond its original borders ” this included East Jerusalem which had been controlled by Jordan until then. Palestinians living within this new area were displaced or fled during the fighting and have never been allowed back into their homes since then ” becoming refugees who live mostly outside Israel’s borders today (in Lebanon, Jordan ,Syria etc). Since 1967 there have been multiple wars where again Israeli forces took more land from neighboring countries ” resulting in even further displacement of Palestinians..The United Nations (UN) has repeatedly called for a peaceful solution that respects human rights on all sides but so far no lasting agreement has been made” partly due to disagreements among different governments on how best to resolve the issue . Today tensions continue to remain high as both sides accuse each other of violating international law through violent acts such as airstrikes or targeted killings against civilians; while at same time claiming exclusive rights over disputed territory based on ancient historical claims/borders . The US Government under President Trump proposed a plan aiming at peace between Israelis & Palestinians however neither side accepted it leading many people feeling pessimism towards achieving any real movement towards that goal anytime soon .
