Family Tradition Essay Examples
Family traditions are a unique and special part of every family’s identity. They help bring families closer together and create lasting memories that will be shared for generations to come. My family has many different traditions that we take part in each year, but the most important one is our annual Thanksgiving celebration. Every year on the fourth Thursday of November, my entire extended family gathers at my grandparent’s house for an all-day feast filled with delicious traditional dishes and lots of laughter. We start off by preparing the turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, roasted vegetables as well as all of the other side items like cranberry sauce and green bean casserole. Everyone comes together to get it ready in time for our meal which starts around 12pm sharp. Once everyone is seated around their assigned seats ” there are always plenty of laughs when trying to figure out who gets what seat ” we begin by going around in a circle saying what we are thankful for during this holiday season; this is followed by a prayer before digging into the food. After dinner, it’s time for dessert. Pumpkin pies are definitely number one on the list; however, over recent years more people have brought their own special desserts making it even more enjoyable. Lastly, just before dark set in we take a group picture outside so that next year when Thanksgiving rolls back around again we can look back fondly at last year’s celebration. Our yearly tradition may seem simple enough but its impact on us is great: reminding us how blessed we are to have each other no matter what else life throws our wayand also helping us remember why it doesn’t hurt occasionally to eat too much pumpkin pie.
