Pollution has become a major concern in today’s society. It is a broad term that can encompass many different types of environmental damage, including air pollution, water pollution and land contamination. The effects of this type of damage are often devastating and long-lasting. This essay will discuss the effect that pollution has on our environment and health. The most noticeable effect of pollution is its impact on the environment. Air pollution is one of the most significant issues in our modern world; it affects both plants and animals alike. Pollutants such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other volatile organic compounds have been linked to global warming by trapping heat in the atmosphere and increasing temperatures around the world. This leads to changes in weather patterns, ocean levels rising due to thermal expansion, melting glaciers resulting in sea level rise, increased flooding events and droughts in some areas which can lead to destruction or displacement of habitats for animals living there. Additionally, air pollutants such as particulate matter can cause respiratory diseases like asthma or bronchitis when inhaled over time into human lungs leading to serious health complications later on down the line. Water pollution also has far reaching consequences not only for humans but also aquatic organisms like fish or coral reefs that depend upon clean water sources for their survival . When chemicals from industry are dumped into rivers or oceans they can be toxic to these creatures if left unchecked leading them either die off entirely from suffocation or poisoning due to ingesting contaminated food sources etc In addition , drinking contaminated water leads not just additional illness among those consuming it but may even carry disease vectors such as bacteria parasites viruses all passed through contact with infected persons . Lastly land contamination from oil spills industrial waste agricultural runoff etc pollutes soil making it difficult for anything else to grow Thereby decreasing biodiversity further already fragile ecosystems.
