Timeline
Soap operas in the Philippines originated in radio, then it expanded into television in early 1960's. The first Filipino TV Soap Opera was "Hiwaga sa Bahay na Bato" in 1963 produced by ABS-CBN. Soap operas in the Philippines were usually shown during daytime. Among the most popular daytime soap operas then were, Gulong ng Palad, Flor de Luna, Mara Clara, Annaliza, Aguila and Valiente. But in 1996, soap opera programmimg was move to primetime due to the popularity gained by mexican Telenovela, Marimar, aired on RPN 9.
This is the start of telenovela craze in
the Philippines. Major networks ABS-CBN and GMA Network followed the trend by having foreign telenovelas in their timeslot. The GMA Network-Viva TV co-production "Villa Quintana" was the first credited local primetime daily teleserye. It had toppled the unbeatable rival show "TV Patrol" in the ratings game. Because of this, ABS CBN was troubled and in 1996, shifted the timeslot of Mara Clara from its daytime programmimg to primetime slot. Also, ABS-CBN come up with a soap similar to "Villa Quintana" entitled "Familia Zaragosa. In 2000, ABS CBN, made a milestone in Philippine Telenovelas when it introduced "Pangako sa 'Yo", which was known to be the first official teleserye, and Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay". These teleseryes set the standard of present teleserye productions in the Philippines which also became a big hit in the Philippines and likewise to other countries. Because of this, subsequent soap operas shown on television are now referred to as teleseryes. ABS CBN's biggest rival network, GMA, has also followed, producing their own term of teleseryes under the term, teledrama.
Again, in Early 2004 ABS-CBN introduced a new variation of teleserye which mixes soap opera, fantasy, myth, magic and enchantment. This genre was called Fantaserye. The first official fantaserye that was shown on primetime TV was Marina. Marina undoubtfully set a benchmark forfantaseryes on television when it garnered consistent high ratings during its entire run. The ratings and audience share of the said fantaseryewere even higher than the usual more established teleseryes during primetime. In Mid 2004, GMA Network, embarked on its own term of fantaserye which are called telefantasya.
GMA produced Marinara and Mulawin, the latter becoming more successful which eventually started the
GMA telefantasya craze. On the other hand, ABS CBN focuses on airing teleseryes for its primetime slots although it sometimes produces fantaseryes as well. It was this year that started further variations of the teleserye genre under the terms, superserye, sineserye and cinenovela. Storylines A popular plot of a teleserye is a love story between two different individuals, a rich guy fell in-love with a poor girl or a handsome guy attracted to a very ugly girl.
Their romances is then contradicted by the mother of the guy because of their differences in life. Another popular storyline of teleseryes is the search of a girl to her family members, usually the mother is being searched. The story goes, the girl was separated from her family at birth due to some circumtances, maybe by a bus accident or because the villain in the story wants a revenge to the parents of the protagonist-the villain will either exchange the baby with other mother and let the baby protagonist live a poor life, or the villain just simply take the child from the mother and let it live a very miserable life.
Teleseryes usually focus on love, betrayal, jealousy, social status and revenge between characters, usually their family history and relationships affecting the later generation. The storyline of most teleseryes are similar, although both ABS CBN and GMA have diverged into different storylines which started the variations of the genre. Twist Among the most common twist in the romance between couples is that they will find out that they were brothers and sisters, but in the end they will also find out that they were not siblings because one of
them is an adopted child.
Teleseryes are notorious for adding new characters to an already convoluted plot which adds more twist in the story. Usually the girl will meet a new guy which will eventually be her new love-interest in the story. Sometimes teleseryes play with its viewers that makes another twist in the plot. For example a character which was known to be killed or died in the story will eventually appear in the latter part of the story. The usual reasons of this situations is that he or she was saved in the accident or maybe the person buried was not him or her.
The Villains Villains are created to make the life of the protagonist especially miserable. Old Filipino Soap operas had very rude, violent, greedy, almost sociopathatic villains. Character of villains in teleseryes have changed from the old soap operas to the present teleseryes. In old soap operas villains were very violent and usually used power and money to make the protagonist miserable. Oftentimes, they aim to full-out kill the protagonist. Villains in present teleseryes are less violent compared to the old ones.
They no longer murder a character in the story to take revenge, except that they are still evil and cause the protagonist to suffer. Ending The story usually ends with the villains meeting spectacularly violent, gruesome, painful and gory end. Most complications will reach a resolution and the protagonists will end up getting married and with a child, sometimes, even twins. However, the predictability of teleserye endings have become an issue and audience sometimes complain that the plot and ending of teleseryes are becoming repetitive, predictable and tiresome.
Because of this, scriptwrites
have endevoured to change the ending of some teleseryes to provide additional twist and originality. http://en. wikipilipinas. org/index. php? title=Teleserye
Impact and Effect to the Teen Agers Mental Health
According to the dictionary Mental Health is ''the psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment. ’’ It has everything to do with how you feel about yourself, the quality of your relationships, how you control your feelings and deal with your problems.
Mental health issues are very common in the youth society today. I truly agree that it is somewhat tough been a teen. With the many physical, emotional, psychological and social changes that accompany this stage of life; we often find ourselves stressed out while trying to maintain a good balance between our goals, school, family, relationships, etc. , whereas still trying to enjoy our teenage years. While in the process of growing up, you need to learn how to control your emotions and behavior or it will likely control you.
By doing this; you will eventually build strong relationships, handle life’s inevitable challenges, lead productive and fulfilllife:) While many teenagers often focus on their mental and emotional health only when they develop a mental health issue, it requires effort to maintain a healthy mental and emotional health just as it requires the same principle to build or maintain a physical health. ‘’You may be wondering how staying physically active can help your mental health. Well; mind-body interaction happens on a daily basis.
If your body is healthy, than there's a better chance that your brain will also be healthy. This in turn will boost your self-esteem, mood, and overall mental
state. Your mind and body is linked together. When you improve your physical health, you’ll automatically experience greater mental and emotional well-being. ''For example, exercise not only strengthens our heart and lungs, but also releases endorphins, powerful chemicals that energize us and lift our mood. ’’ Mental health describes a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of a mental disorder. 1][2] From the perspective of 'positive psychology' or 'holism', mental health may include an individual's ability to enjoy life and create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. [1] Mental health can also be defined as an expression of emotions, and as signifying a successful adaptation to a range of demands.
Emotional Health
What is emotional health anyway? A useful definition of emotional health is the ability to express all emotions appropriately. Those who have this ability are surely mentally healthy.
Being emotionally stuck is often the best indicator of current lack of emotional health. I might be stuck in depression or stress, stuck in anger at my favorite targets, stuck in obsessive fears, or stuck in perpetual guilt or shame. Obviously, this indicator of emotional health suggests that many of us lack emotional health much of the time. An outstanding example of emotional health is the average two-year-old, who often displays a full range of emotions. Emotions are usually freely expressed and felt by the two-year-old, and therefore stuckness in any one emotion for more than a couple of minutes doesn't happen often.
Once felt, emotions change. Without emotional change one stays discomfited, clear evidence of skewed emotional expression. This is a commonly overlooked truism about emotions - once they are felt properly,
they disappear, thus making room for the next feeling or emotion. (The root of the word, e-motion, implies motion or change. ) That’s what emotional health is. How much of the flow do I allow to enter my heart? The more raw material that I allow in, the greater my emotional health. In one sense, good emotional health is so simple and so easy.
Because all you have to do is to let the flow of emotion enter your heart. But on the other hand, it’s so hard and so difficult. We come into this life in a much purer state than how we end up. Not perfect. We still have plenty of filters from day one. Filters we come in with. Filters from the unconscious mind. Filters we bring in with us for our own reasons… unknown to our conscious minds. Then, from day one, we start forming subconscious filters. At first, we only take in filters from our mother, or the mothering figure in our life.
Then, after we break from mother, we start taking in filters from our environment. Later, once the conscious mind has developed, we take in filters from our father, or fathering figure. By the time we reach the age of ten, the filters are set. We ‘know’ how much we deserve. We ‘know’ how much we’re worth. We ‘know’ if we’re good enough or not. And on and on it goes. Filters on top of filters on top of filters. Some contradict others. It becomes like a mish mash of spaghetti that surrounds us. These filters determine our degree of emotional health.
Spiritual Health
Spirituality is unique to each individual. Your “spirit”
usually refers to the deepest part of you, the part that lets you make meaning of your world. Your spirit provides you with the revealing sense of who you are, why you are here and what your purpose for living is. It is that innermost part of you that allows you to gain strength and hope. Spiritual wellness may not be something that you think much of, yet its impact on your life is unavoidable. The basis of spirituality is discovering a sense of meaningfulness in your life and coming to know that you have a purpose to fulfill.
For some, spirituality may be equated with traditional religions such as Christianity, Hinduism or Buddhism. For others, it may mean growing in your personal relationships with others, or through being at peace with nature.
Social Health
Social health is a term generally used to refer to two different concepts, though they are somewhat interrelated as well. In one sense it refers to the health of a person in reference to his or her ability to interact with others and thrive in social settings. It can also refer to the health of a society in general, and how the members of that society are treated and behave toward each other.
Socialhealth is often considered of great importance in regards to individual health, especially as further information and research has established how social interactions can assist in improving other forms of health. Along with physical health and mental health, socialhealth forms the last of the three fundamental and vital forms of health for a person. Physical and mental health typically deal with an individual and how well his or her body and
mind are functioning and keeping his or her various systems running properly.
Socialhealth, on the other hand, often indicates how that person interacts with other people, as well as the consequences or benefits of such interactions in relation to the well-being of that person. While it is still heavily invested in individual health, it also considers the interconnected nature of society in general. Socialhealth often deals with how people relate to each other, and how an individual is able to socialize with other people and form relationships. This can deal with friendships, in terms of how well the person can form and keep friendships, and other types of relationships as well.
There are a number of ways in which the different aspects of health are interrelated and have an impact on each other. For example, the study of human sexuality often deals with physical, mental, and socialhealth in understanding how people relate to each other and how sexuality manifests for an individual and affects the relationships that individual has with others.
Physical Health
Physical health and wellness is often regarded or measured through one’s own physical strength, endurance and flexibility. Physical strength, per se, may mean the cardiovascular and muscular strength being possessed by an individual.
When most people think about health they conjure up images that are related to physical health. Physical health is anything that has to do with our bodies as a physical entity. It has been the basis for active living campaigns and the many eat right fads that have swept our country. With so much information about physical health it is often difficult to determine what is current and relevant. This web page will attempt
to provide you with accurate relevant information to empower you to enhance your physical health.
