11. What motivational techniques would you use to ensure that students are engaged in your lesson?
answer
• There are several strategies I use to get students' attention including hands-on techniques: • I begin an exercise with a 5 min warm; simple task students can answer as soon as they walk in the room • My lessons start with an engaging question or short kid friendly YouTube clip; because a majority of kids these days are into technology and are audio/visual learners • Start by Reading a Story aloud and show the book on the overhead kids love stories. • In science I can give a mini lesson in the form of a discrepant event; ask them to observe, predict, and explain what they saw; I never give away the secret to the event, so it allows them to use critical thinking to help them investigate and discover the science behind it; then we can use classroom or school computer to look it up online. • I also use whole-brain teaching techniques such as class yes, scoreboard and teach ok. The students are motivated to win the game and they have fun teaching each other. • I use mini white boards to check for understanding and so that students can demonstrate they want they know about the standard. • I ask questions to get higher level thinking from the kids.
