Contemporary Controversy in Othello in Shakespeare Narrative Essay Example
Othello is William Shakespeare's tragedy composed in 1603, based on the story of a Moorish captain. The story revolves around four central characters Othello who is a Moorish general in Venetian army, his wife Desdemona, his lieutenant Cassio and Iago, the unfaithful ensign. The thesis statement: Theme of Marriage in Shakespeare reflects on what exactly take place in the current generation society despite the difference in time of the book publication.
Marriage, as described in Shakespeare Othello novel, depicts what happens in the current error. Jealousy is a common thing in marriage, in Shakespeare Othello, logo suggests that his wife Emilia has cheated on him with Othello, but this is not true, and logo says that “he hates the Moor. I know not assuming right, but rather I, for minor suspicion in that kind, will do as though for surety” (I.
...iii.430). There is also an act of marriage without the parent acknowledgment similarly currently referred to ‘come we stay,’ Brabantio blames Othello of taking her daughter informally and calls him a robber. “O, you thief, where have you taken my daughter?” (I.ii.80).
The act of enchantment typical in the current world marriage has been examining by Shakespeare where Brabantio insist that Othello must have enchanted Desdemona, she wonders why Desdemona would shy away from all the white bachelor in Venice to marry sooty bosom Moor who is Othello, Brabantio feared that miscegenation would have occurred in her daughter's marriage where mixed race kids will bear. “Damned, you have enchanted her! I'll refer to all sensible things; perhaps she is chains of magic which have bounded her, whether a maid so tender, kind and excited, so contrary t
marriage that she shunned. The wealthy curled darlings of the nation would have to face the mock, run from her garage to the sooty bosom of such a thing. The world should judge me if this is not a fact, which you have practiced a foul charm on her, Abused her delicate youth with medicines or minerals. That weakens motion (I.ii.85).
Last but not least, infidelity which basically is adultery in marriage, this act has been for long time a major constraint in marriages in the modern society, leading to divorce each and every day especially in United States of America and other nations around the world, in the Shakespeare’s story, the act of adultery manifest, logo is completely obsessed that he suspect Othello has slept with his wife, Emilia, he also fear that Cassio has also done the same. Then he later suggest that he should pay back by sleeping with Desdemona, Othello’s wife or if he’s not able then he will do all he can to make Othello believe that Cassio has been sleeping with Othello’s wife. “What should be done, if the wrong trash of Venice, for I’m an afraid of Cassio with nightcap too” (II.i.328). Cassio also admitted that he had slept with her. Othello becomes annoyed and even thought of hanging Cassio, who happen to have sex with his lover. “To confess, and be hanged for labor, first to be hanged” (IV.i.40).
Conclusion
All aspects of Othello’s Shakespeare narrative themes give a perfect reflection on what happens in the current society today. Though the story was written some years back, it provides real-time activities and expectations in the present society as if the
author had a snapshot of the future at the time of his work preparation.
