Chapter 72: Combined Spinal-Epidural Anesthesia – Flashcards

Flashcard maker : Patrick Marsh
What are the types of CSE techniques?
Single pass
Needle-through-needle
Eldor needle technique
Huber needle technique
Separate needles
Dual catheter techniques
What is the Eldor technique?
Spinal needle inserted in a small channel within the lumen of the epidural needle. Epidural test dose is delivered via catheter then spinal needle is inserted.
What is the Huber technique?
Small hole in greater curvature of Tuohy which spinal traverses then catheter is placed.
What are the advantages of hyperbaric solutions?
More reliable blockade
Decreased probability of cephalad spread
Less hypotension
Less nausea
What is the advantage of isobaric solutions?
Less cephalad spread in Trendelenburg when trying to increase venous return
What are the advantages of paramedian approach?
Decreased dural puncture and PDPH
Increased probability of cephalad catheter placement
