Types of malware: -worm: replicates itself over a network to infect computers, using up system resources -trojan horse: destructive program disguised as program. can capture info and enable someone to remote control your computer -rootkit: can hide and allow someone to take full control of your computer from a remote location Signs of Virus Infection: unusual message, sound, file doesn't work, etc.

file manager: organizing files, coping, renaming, deleting, moving, sorting search tool: attempts to locate certain file based on criteria you specify image viewer: allows users to display, copy and print content of graphics uninstaller: removes a program, and any associated files disk cleanup:searches for and removes unnecessary files (downloaded programs, temporary files, deleted files) disk defragmenter: reorganizes the files and unused space on a computer's hard disk so that operating system accesses data more quickly & programs run faster screen saver: causes display to show a moving image or blank screen if no movement happens in a certain amount of time file compression: shrinks size of files so it takes up less storage PC maintenance: identifies and fixes operating system problems, repairs disk problems and includes capability of improving computer's performance backup and restore: allows users to copy or backup selected files and put them on another location. restore reverses this and returns backed up files to original form.
