Abortion qualifies to among the most discussed topics in the entire world. The questions about abortion revolve around this topic revolve around the mother’s right to a decision, the appropriateness of the same in society and religion, the regard for human life depicted in the practice and also the evolving technology and whether undertaking the practice is safe in terms of health of the mother among others. One thing is however, is clear as day, abortion should remain legal, not only in America but also all over the world.
There are approximately 42 million abortion cases worldwide each year and 115,000 each day. In the United State of America, there are approximately 3135 abortion cases each day. In the year 2015, 1.21 million were recorded in the same region. In countries where abortion is illegal, the
number of women who do it illegally end up with a high probability of risking their health. According to the world health organization, 20 million abortion cases recorded last year were unsafe and 68000 women die every year due to unsafe termination of pregnancies for the reason that it is considered illegal in their countries. In countries where abortion is legal, 92% of the abortion cases are entirely safe (World Health Organisation, WHO).
By allowing abortion to remain legal, we are giving a chance to young women and young couples all over the world to take charge of their lives. We are placing the decision to or not to have kids depending on the stability of their lives in terms of finances and social welfare. The law should not stop this freedom because, for instance, passing the law will not consider
if the mother has enough money to bring up the child on her own. Because of this the mother should be given freedom to decide on her own, whether or not she can bring up a baby under the current prevailing conditions, if she can, the by all means she can have the baby, if she cannot, the law should not stop her from making the decision that will determine the rest of her life, it should allow her to get rid of the baby using proper conventional means that will not harm her health and she can take charge of her life (Grisez 1970).
Bringing up a child is not only about finances, there is the social and emotional part too that is necessary in child growth. Absence of stability in either could be catastrophic in the child’s life. For instance, a parent that is not ready to bring up a child emotionally will result to developing an environment that is not conducive at for child growth. This will be way worse than abortion because most physical, moral and mental disorders can be traced back to bad parenthood. This brings me to the resolution that the parent should be availed with the decision to determine when it is appropriate to bring up a child other than forced conditions that results to the child being brought up without love, care and stability that a child needs.
The reason abortion has a bad tag along with it is because, for the known amount of time, the society has bad-mouthed abortion making the ones who do it to do it in hiding without the right equipment, drugs and instructions.
This has often resulted to casualties in most cases thereby supporting the common reason against abortion that it is a bad practice with a lot of health hazards (Thomson 1976). If abortion was to be made legal all around the globe, then it would be an ordinary practice done by health professionals in health centers using the right means and then we would have no health casualties due to abortion.
There has also been the claim that abortion is murder therefore should be abolished. This misconception is highly incorrect and science has proved it more times than not that the fetus is not a human being but a mere group of cells. A fetus is scientifically not a human being therefore also legally not a human being and should not be equated to murder (Railsback 1984).
Abortion prevents unwanted pregnancies. This in turn avoid neglected children and infants on the streets and church doors because it gives the option of not giving birth at all in the first place. Neglected children face a lot of difficulties growing up without basic necessities making them struggle in a strange world of which if their parents had been given the choice would have chosen not to give birth to them at all.
Recent research has provided means to perform the abortion procedure correctly and appropriately that guarantees the safety of the mother during and after the procedure. This procedure should be availed in all hospitals globally to enable prospective parents to take charge of their lives and to engage in Planned Parenthood with the ultimate goal of quality and productive lives.
Social media has made the world more like a global village
where everyone is able to point out their opinions regarding issues that influence them. Some offers stern decisions against abortion while others voice the reasons why abortion should remain legal. This debate has contributed a lot to pushing the governments forward to conduct research on abortion methods in terms of health, technologies and appropriateness. This means the decision to keep the baby or not is better placed today than it was a week, a month or a year ago. The focus of human beings has been total domination of the world and its resources, therefore abortion should not sidelined in this. It also explores domination of human beings in their ability to determine when or not they would like to produce offspring.
In my opinion, discovery of a new mineral, invention of a new technology or success of human kind in an activity is not different to abortion. All these places human kind on a better position to make decisions to improve the quality of their lives and accumulate more information and knowledge to handle things better next time. Today we can create babies in test tubes, there is no reason the law should stop us from halting the process to create a baby when we are not ready.
Religion stands against abortion on a very strong front but then religion should not be the foundation for our federal law. Religion has been formulated with what was rights many years ago, but now things have changed. We have our own modern law made from prevailing circumstances that should equip us with the do and don’ts of our time. In addition, staunch religious people should be allowed to
keep their faith and avoid abortion by all means individually but they should not subject the same yoke on their kids or people who do not share their opinions on the same topic. Everyone should be given the alternative to choose just like in a democracy (Sandel 1989).
To conclude, Abortion should be legal and should stay that way as supported in the points above. Conception choices should be placed on the hands of the parents because they are the ones to either suffer or benefit from conception and not the law makers. Just like other social issues facing the world today such as homosexuality laws and the death penalty charge in courts of law, abortion should be considered on all fronts before the law experiences any kind of change.
