Created poor relations with native peoples. Caused the British gov't to go into debt which resulted in deciding to tax the colonies and helped spark the American Revolution.

Navigation Acts

passed in 1651. British attempt to dominate international trade. banned foreign ships from transporting goods to the colonies and from transporting goods to Britain from elsewhere in Europe. Good for the colonists who were legally able to provide goods for Britain.

Algonquian Tribe

Inhabited the land between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains. Nomadic. Lived in Teepees and followed the buffalo herds. Included the Sioux, Cheyenne, Comanche and Blackfoot. Noted members were Sacagawea, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull.

Pacific Northwest Tribes

Inhabited the northwest Pacific coast. Tribes included the Tlingit, Chinook, Salish and Nez Perce. Lived in large rectangular homes and ate, fish, deer, native berries and roots. Totem-pole builders. Chief Joseph tried to outrun the U.S. Cavalry to get his people to safety in Canada. He did not succeed.
