Landforms, Bodies of water, Climate, Vegetation and soil of the earth .

*Landforms: Florida has two main parts a Peninsula and a panhandle. Panhandle borders Georgia and Alabama. * Water Bodies: The Atlantic Ocean to the east The Straits of Florida to the South Gulf of Mexico to the west. Florida Largest lake is lake Okeechobee *The Florida Keys-chain of islands located at the tip of Florida and south of Miami *Florida Everglades- More than 4,000 square miles of wetland on the Southern tip from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. *Florida Climate -Warm and Sunny most of the year. People can grow crops all year round and the warm weather also attracts tourists, who often choose to spend vacations on one the Fla beaches. Florida Climate also includes hurricanes.

A long Narrow Stretch of land that is surrounded by water on three sides.

The Panhandle makes up Northern Florida. It border Alabama and Georgia.

*Most of Florida is Flat *Higher land lies across the northern panhandle and Central Florida *Florida has no Mountains *Highest point in Florida found in Walton County along the panhandle. It is only 345 feet above sea.

Phosphate mining and Tourism

Phosphate is a mineral used to make fertilizer for soil.

*Florida is Phosphate mining is a huge industry in Florida because there so much of it in the land. *Most of the Phosphate used in the USA comes from Florida. *Phosphate industry has a big impact on Tampa, Florida. Millions of tons of Phosphate are shipped from Tampa port every year, these shipments make the port of Tampa one of the largest ports in the country. *Thousands of people in the Tampa Bay region have jobs related to the Phosphate industry

Tourism affects Florida: 1-Florida Economy- Florida warm weather attracts many tourist to visit, staying at Hotels, eating at restaurants, buying presents to bring home. 2.- Employment- Tourism create jobs in Florida

The Physical Geography of the state

*Florida is one of the most populated states today. *Most of Florida residents live in urban areas (urban areas are cities and towns). *Florida has one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country (more than five million people live in Miami-Frot Lauderdale). *Most of Florida's cities are located along the coast- Ocean and Rivers offer an easy way to move people and goods. *Some people live inland-you'll find fewer cities in these areas.

Measure how many people lives in a given area, such as as a square mile.

A major population center made out of a large city and the smaller cities and towns that surrounded it.

a storm with heavy rains and strong winds that develops over the ocean and often moves towards land.

*Florida climate can bring Hurricanes *Hurricane season is from June to November *Deadliest Hurricane in Florida was in 1928. *Hurricane Wilma hit Florida in 2005 and cost $10 Billion in damage * 1992-Hurricane Andrew * 2004 Florida endured four hurricanes.

* Orange State because of Forida many Orange Groves. * Alligator State because Florida is home to many alligators * Water State because Florida has more than 7,800 lakes and 50,000 miles of rivers and streams * Water surrounds the state on three sides.

In the winter of 1894 and 1895 a bad freeze killed most of the citrus crops in northern Florida. The freeze didn't reach Miami. The good weather in Miami convinces Henry M. Flagler to built a railroad to Miami. Flagler also build ahotel in the Miami Harbour.

Miami became a city in 1896. The city grew quickly until the climate brought a major hurricane in 1926. Large areas of Miami were floated or destroyed. Over time people rebuilt the city.
