Title IX, The Education Amendments of 1972

Effect of Title IX
answer
Title IX prohibited sex discrimination in educational institutions receiving federal funds from the United States government.
It outlawed sex separate physical education classes and stated that schools had to provide either equal sport teams for girls or let the girls try out with the boys.
However, schools were not required to sponsor coed teams in contact sports like football.

It improved the sporting opportunities and resources available for women at both the high school level and at institutions of higher education.
An increase in the salaries and other forms of compensation for administrators and coaches of women's teams.
Although compensation still remains unequal, progress has been made.
