What is Store And Forward?
A store and forward system is a type of data transmission method where data is sent from one network to another, temporarily stored at an intermediate station, and then forwarded to its final destination. This approach is useful when the source and destination systems are not always connected or when unreliable connections exist between them. In such circumstances, the data can be sent via the intermediate station which stores it until it is able to send it on its way successfully. Store and forward networks are commonly used in communication systems such as email, instant messaging, file transfers, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony, satellite networks and mobile signal transmission. The system provides a reliable way of ensuring that data gets through even if the connection between source and destination is often interrupted or slow. The store-and-forward process works by storing each message before delivering it to its intended recipient. Each message passes through several nodes along a network path before reaching its destination. The nodes along the path act as intermediate stations that keep copies of each message until they are all completely transferred to their intended recipients. As each node receives a copy of the message, it checks for errors in order to make sure that the data integrity remains intact during transmission across multiple locations on different networks. The store-and-forward approach offers several advantages over other types of communication systems including higher reliability due to retransmission capabilities; better security since corrupted messages can be discarded; more efficient use of bandwidth since only complete messages are delivered; greater scalability due to distributed routing protocols; as well as improved latency because messages only have to traverse one node instead of multiple hops across a wide area network (WAN). It also allows for easier access control since administrators can set up rules regarding what kinds of communications should pass through their nodes or be blocked altogether depending on their policies or preferences. Store and forward networks can be used in virtually any type of application where reliable communication over long distances needs to occur without interruption or delays due to unreliable connections or slow speeds caused by distance between source and receiver locations. Such applications include banking transactions over ATM networks, medical records transfers between hospitals in different cities, video conferencing calls with remote participants located around the world, etc. No matter how complex these scenarios may seem they all rely on this simple yet powerful technology store and forward allowing us remain connected despite geographic boundaries.
