What is Spine?
The spine is an important part of the human body, providing structure and support for the head, neck and torso. It also helps protect vital organs such as the brain, heart and lungs by linking together all major muscle groups. The spine is composed of 33 vertebrae which are stacked in a column one on top of another, connected to each other by discs and muscles. These vertebrae provide flexibility to the body so we can move freely while maintaining enough stability to carry our bodies around safely. Problems with the spine can cause a variety of issues ranging from back pain and stiffness to more serious issues such as herniated discs, sciatica or scoliosis. The most common causes of spinal problems include poor posture, lack of exercise or physical activity, obesity, injury and genetics. Treatment for spinal problems may include exercises to strengthen core muscles – those muscles that surround your lower back – rest or medications like anti-inflammatories or muscle relaxants recommended by your doctor. Surgery may be necessary in more serious cases where damage has been done due to illness or trauma. It is important to maintain healthy posture while sitting at desks, driving cars or operating machinery; stretching regularly; eating a balanced diet; practicing yoga; staying active through daily activities such as walking; lifting weights correctly; quitting smoking if applicable; using ergonomic equipment when available; avoiding activities that involve extreme twisting motions such as golfing or tennis; getting adequate restful sleep every night (aim for 6-8 hours); and wearing shoes with good arch support when standing for long periods of time. These steps can help keep your spine healthy and prevent any potential spinal issue from occurring in the future.
