What is French?
The French language, originating in France and spoken by over 220 million people around the world, is one of the most widely used languages in the world. It is a Romance language derived from Latin and has evolved over time to become its own unique language with a rich history of literature and culture. The French are renowned for their love of food, fashion, art, music, philosophy and theatre. French is an official language in 29 countries making it second only to English as the most spoken language internationally. People who speak French as their primary language live on every continent in the world. As such it has been heavily influenced by its many dialects across Europe, Africa, Canada (Quebecois) and other areas of Francophone influence such as Haiti or certain parts of Louisiana in America. This wide spread use has meant that there are several different varieties of French including Standard French which includes Metropole (mainland France), Swiss-French (Switzerland) Belgian-French (Belgium) Canadian-French (Canada). Each region speaks slightly differently but all share common ground when it comes to grammar rules and vocabulary words borrowed from Latin roots. Furthermore due to its popularity within Europe learning French can be an especially interesting way to connect with fellow Europeans more easily through communication; understanding jokes told among friends or speaking at business meetings etc . Additionally if you ever plan on visiting a country where this beautiful tongue is spoken then being able to communicate will open up whole new worlds for any tourist.
