What is normative social influence?

A form of influence whereby an individual conforms to the majority in order to gain approval and acceptance.

What is informational social influence?

A form of influence which occurs because an individual wants to be right, or do the right thing. The individual will believe the majority provide evidence about reality

Why does normative influence occur?

Because humans are a social species who have a fundamental need to be accepted and avoid rejection.

The individual must believe they are under surveillance by the group. When this happens, they may conform publicly, but nor privately.
