Upon joining the Bridgewater-Raritan program in August, I was unsure of what to expect. Knowing that the band would demand a lot of hard work and be quite different from my previous experience in middle school, I readied myself for a difficult transition.

In my opinion, my involvement in the program has been more beneficial to me than my time in middle school, in terms of both skills acquisition and life lessons. A specific memory I have is from one of my early days, when Mr. Markiewicz mentioned that we would form an unbreakable bond with our instrument. I must confess that at that moment I chuckled and thought to myself, "that's impossible".

g and have noticed improvements in my finger dexterity, air intensity, and mental alertness when playing the clarinet. Reflecting on my eighth-grade performance highlights how far I have come and fills me with pride knowing that this is only the beginning of my musical growth.

My intention for the band class is to participate in the program throughout my high school years. Although I don't strive to be the top performer in the school, I desire to contribute to a successful team and achieve my highest level of musical skill during high school. If I need a certain amount of credits, I prefer to engage in an activity that I am capable at and enjoy doing. The extraordinary experience of marching band has been one of the most thrilling moments for me.

significant role in my progress. It made me feel like I had been there long enough, as it requires one to strive for the highest and more. Marching Band taught me time management, which is an important skill that is usually learnt in college. I remind myself of it daily by having this quote on my bedroom door: "If you are on time, you are late, if you are early you are on time, and if you are late, get ready to run laps."

Learning to balance my band commitments with my schoolwork has taught me the importance of avoiding procrastination and the rewards of working hard. Achieving success in both areas has instilled in me the belief that with determination, nothing can hinder my progress. The moment our school was announced as the winner at the state competition remains etched in my memory, evoking an indescribable sense of triumph over our rivals, Immaculata.

My main objective during my high school years is to win three more times at the New Jersey state competition. Achieving this goal would bring great pride and enable me to contribute to the school's reputation. During a visit to Indianapolis, Mr. Markiewicz conveyed the possibility of returning. If we do visit again, my aim would be to make semi-finals and with some luck, possibly reach the finals. Upon leaving high school, my plan is to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point and join their Concert and Marching band. This will enable me to remain involved in the musical arts.

Despite a few setbacks, such as forgetting my ligature and dot book, my high school music experiences have been mostly

positive. Akio Morita's quote "Don't be afraid to make a mistake. But make sure you don't make the same mistake twice" has inspired me in my musical pursuits. I am excited for a successful four years in the BRHS Band Program.
