The government's implementation of operation pied piper, which commenced on Friday 1st September 1939, was a wise decision aimed at ensuring our safety. As the first member in my family to be sent away, we all agreed without hesitation that it was the optimal and most secure option for us.

Realizing the importance of safeguarding ourselves against bomb attacks, we opted to evacuate. Consequently, arrangements were made for me, my brother, and my two sisters to relocate to a more appropriate temporary residence. As the year 1941 drew to a close, it became evident to all, particularly the children in our midst, that it was imperative to move to rural areas.

rience. Although I missed my parents greatly, this caring family treated me as if I were their own son, allowing me to treasure every moment. It became evident that my circumstances were not as unfavorable when compared to others.

On September 23, 1940, I was outside my house when the blitz occurred. Initially filled with excitement upon hearing aircraft approaching, little did I know they were actually bombers. Suddenly, the bombs began to drop and unfortunately caused significant damage to my shirt.

The acidity was so strong that it made breathing difficult and turned that day into the most terrifying experience of my life. It's still incredible to me how I managed to survive. On Thursday 12th March 2009, my gas mask finally arrived! Initially, I had doubts about its effectiveness and saw it as a burden to carry

everywhere. When the gas masks were delivered, their smell was overpowering, suggesting little effort went into producing them. However, we all had to wear them, so I complied. Over time, I grew used to the smell despite it initially causing nausea.

As time passed, I grew accustomed to wearing the mask without any discomfort. Yet, my heart went out to my younger sister who had to wear a larger mask encompassing her entire body. Her legs would extend beyond the bottom of the mask, and our mother had to manually provide her with air.
