How Can We Change Gender Stereotypes in Non-Traditional Sports? Essay Example
Gender Stereotypes in Non-Traditional Sports
In life, there are hardships that people face in choosing sports activities because of family stress, peer pressure or doubts from the trainer. An athlete may find it difficult to enter a competition because many have been traditionally classified between gender or different sex that is male and female. On the ground, a sport like wrestling involves takedowns, throws, and fighting, therefore, making it difficult for female to join because it’s classified as a male sport as it requires a lot of strength, stamina, balance and a lot of training. Also, a sport like a basketball which involves jumping, strength of hands because of controlling the ball traditionally is not suitable for women. It has a lot of aggressiveness and people view it as men’s sports. Another sport is baseball which is pla
...yed using a bat and running in the field. Individuals who enter in a non-traditional sport for their gender do have an opportunity to succeed in what they like although this accomplishment often comes rebels and sometimes free support of their families and friends, (Allender, 827).
The thoughts about the ability of the women to courageously endure physical activity are what bring the difference between the sports that traditionally classified to be for men or women. The dominant myth that is surrounding women is that they are considered to be weaker than men and that they would be at a danger of injuring their reproductive organs which would lead to failure of their foremost occupation.
One of the powerful myths encompassing ladies was that they were intrinsically frail, and on the off chance that they attempted to wind up distinctly dynamic,
they would obliterate their conceptive organs, and in this way fizzle at their preeminent occupation.
The society also have champions in sports being gender based because of the mentality it has installed in people's mind that bring about different views in a sport being classified as a male or female. In participating a sport an athlete male or female needs to have passion and work towards achieving one's goals because the challenges are many and mostly historical.
