Currently, Game of Thrones is among the most popular TV shows across the globe with its viewership standing at 18 million viewers per episode. The fantasy adult television show has been adopted from a series of books and targets adults between the ages of 18 to 49 (Kissell, 2014). However, the show popularity seems to grow in males between the ages of 18 to 30. Many people argue that the show is strictly for the boys with a little kinky sex slide in for the girls.
An article by the New York Review, labeled the show as a boy fiction because it is highly sexualized and not appealing to women (Bellafante, 2011). In 2013, a hooping 58 percent of the viewership was male. However, this does not imply that the girls do not watch the series. IDMB user ratings also indicate that males are t
...he largest with ratings standing at 331,637 as compared to female of the same age group at 94251 in 2011. Season 3 attracted a male viewership of 58 percent and women viewership of 42 percent indicating that men are the majority TV show viewers (Pamidimukkala and Masliah, 2015).
This statistics are no surprise to men considering the gratuitous nudity, war, and the patriarchal power structure all sum up to the traditional male. Everyone’s hand has a sword and women are treated like lesser being for quenching male sexual thirsts. Women denied their rights including ability to ascend power or inherit land evident when Queen Cersei could not rule when she was widowed. Though I cannot stand the sight of a women being mistreated, I watch the show because the music, lighting, acting and
colors are appealing. The show has all the appealing modes of address ranging from formal to informal and incorporates different accents for all people.
