Parents died from a fever and then the Monks took Tree-Ear to his uncle who also died from a fever and then finally Tree-Ear was taken to Crane man. His name became Tree-Ear because he was an orphan- which is compared a mushroom on a tree which is like the Tree's Ear.

Goes on a journey, gets attacked by robbers, the vases that he was taking to show to Emissary Kim are broken, he find a shard big enough to show the greatness of Min's work that he continued his journey to Songdo after he almost gave up. The guards almost didn't believe that he had an appointment with the Emissary but after some time they let him in.
