The battle of Midway was one of the most decisive battle in the pacific theatre. It took place from June 3 to 7 1942. It was between the Japanese and the Americans. It was the biggest carrier battle of world war two. The Japanese surprised attack the American carriers by attacking the Coral islands. It was a mostly air battle between fighter planes. They used a lot of dive bombers and torpedo bombers which granted the americans victory. They won also because of the code breakers which showed where the Japanese were attacking.

Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku, Japanese fleet commander, chose to invade a target relatively close to Pearl Harbor to draw out the American fleet, calculating that when the United States began its counterattack, the Japanese would be prepared to crush them. Instead, an American intelligence breakthrough-the solving of the Japanese fleet codes-enabled Pacific Fleet commander Admiral Chester W. Nimitz to understand the exact Japanese plans. Nimitz placed available U.S. carriers in position to surprise the Japanese moving up for their preparatory air strikes on Midway Island itself.

He was the opposite of chester Nimitz, he was the admiral of the Japanese fleet and the strategist behind the pearl harbor attack. He was born on April 4 1884 in Nagaoka, Japan. He died on April 18 1943 at the age of 59. He was adopted by the Yamamoto family. He is known for being against the Pearl Harbor attacks and this quote " I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve".
