based on significant events before and after 1824, how did political and economic policies shift? identify the ways the political system shifted/changed and what characteristics of the political system remained constant. also consider ways the economic system shifted.

-in 1824 jackson ran for president and received majority of popular vote -JQA won election tho -thought that henry clay secured presidency for JQA, know as corrupt bargain -thesis: the corrupt bargain was the catalyst for a wave of political and economic change

- this corrupt election of 1824 caused a large amount of tension in politics -from this tension the Jacksonian faction was born -after election the political parties became whig vs democrats -before there was just one party running for prez but after it tuned into whigs vs dem instead of dem-reb but the election of 1824 was the first where there were no federalist -political climate shifted -politics became geared towards the ¨common man¨

-after 1824 interegional trader began to grow --- JQA supported growth of infrastructure but most of his attempts to expands were rejected by congress - canals and other aids to transportation were built -tariff, tariff of abomination, was placed on foreign goods to protect american industry --- this tariff was made by Americans to protect american economy -working conditions comply shifted ---factories began to develop in urban areas ---people began working by clock not sun ---women working outside of house-- lowell system- employed young women from new England farms to increase efficiency

although there were many shifts there were also many continuities/constants -nationalism was booming --- nationalism increased after war of 1812 --- continued to increase -america became a major world power ---won war of 1812 --- Missouri compromise --- Louisiana purchase - american system (national bank) ---continued to support before and after 1824

-1824 was a turning point in american history that shaped the way our politics run today -SYNTHESIS: similar change that can be compared to this idea is women rights. the idea of republican motherhood was supported which was the idea that the woman would stay at home and teach their sons how to be perfect republican citizens. this shifted when women began to work in factories and things like better pay.
