Jason and the Argonauts

His father is Ason, ruler of Iolcos. Iolcos is taken over by Pelias, Jason's uncle. Jason is raised by a centaur named Chiron on mount Pelion. Pelias gets an oracle from Delphi that warns him that he should be aware of a person with one sandal. When Jason is an adult, goes back to Iolcos. On his way, an old woman named Hera helps him. He crosses a river and loses his sandal in the river.

Once Jason arrives in Iolcos, Pelias invites Jason to the palace because he was the new person in town. Pelias could not kill Jason because of Xenia. To get rid if Jason, Pelias sends him on a wild goose chase to find the Golden Fleece.

This fleece had been a gift from Zeus to Phrixus and Helle so they would not have to be sacrificed. A ram with Golden Fleece ?saves them and flys to Colchis, flys over the Aegean Sea to get from Iolcos to Colchis. On the way, Helle falls into the Hellespont (that name tho). King AEetes welcomes the ram and Phrixus. They then sacrifice the ram and keep the fleece . To keep it safe, Zeus then hangs the fleece on a magic tree and guards it with a dragon. ?

On the way to find the Golden Fleece, Jason brings a group of hero's ( the argonauts) on a boat to reach the end of the earth where the Golden Fleece supposedly was. He's the first man to build a boat in myth, the boat was named Argos (swift). It was the first named boat. They left Iolchis to head to Colchis where they would find the fleece. ?

When the argonauts were on their way, they stopped at the island of Lemnos which was an island of all women. The women came out to greet them and they told the argonauts that they themselves were cursed. The women told them that all men were repelled from them when in reality the women just killed their own men by throwing them over cliffs. The argonauts decided to stay on the island for awhile and "help" the women reproduce. ???Not Jason though, he left Lemnos. One of the argonauts Hercules brought along Hilas his best friend. Hilas though had been taken by a Nyad nymph and killed him. Hercules abandoned his quest to look for Hilas.

To get to Colchis the argonauts had to go through the clashing rocks or symplegades (clashing). Once the argonauts were through the rocks stayed open forever. A man named Phineus is blinded by Zeus. Apollo lets him see again. As punishment, Zeus sends Harpies to Phineus. Harpies are disgusting bird like creatures. ? meanwhile, King AEetes of Colchis is scared when the argonauts show up. Jason tells AEetes that they are looking for the Golden Fleece. While they are there the kings daughter Medea lays her eyes on Jason. Cupid makes sure they fall in love. ? Medea is secretly a witch ?. King AEetes tells Jason that in order to get the Golden Fleece he must harness the bronze bulls so that they could plow the fields to plant the dragons teeth. These teeth would grow into deadly dumb soldiers. Medea is concerned for Jason. Medea gives Jason a magic ointment to help protect him from danger. King AEetes is planning to kill Jason but Medea warns Jason. ??? Medea makes Jason a deal that if she helps him, he must take her away and marry her.

Medea gives the serpant that guards the fleece a potion to make it fall asleep. Jason then takes the fleece easily. King AEetes wakes up that morning to discover everything is missing: his daughter, Jason, the argonauts, the fleece ALL GONE. King AEetes then goes after them. To slow down the king because she does not want them following her, Made a chops up her brother, throws him in the ocean. The king sees him and stops during his journey. The king gives his son a proper burial so he can go to the underworld. This gave Jason and Medea time to get away from Colchis. Near the end of the journey, the argonauts land on Crete and find the last bronze man Talus who was very violent. He is defeated by the argonauts tho because they struck his ankle, his weak spot. ?

Pelias is still king in Iolchis. He is very old though, and his daughters are concerned about his age. ? to get of him, Medea disguises herself and gives a presentation: she chops up an old ram, puts it in a magic cauldron. Then, out of the cauldron hops a baby ram. She is meaning for Pelias to act as the ram, and he will also be young. Medea leaves and Pelias's daughters chop him up as Medea said then BOOM he's dead. YEARS LATER ~ Medea and Jason have two sons together but the King of Corinth wants Jason to marry his daughter and become the king of Corinth. Jason then divorces Medea. A very jealous Medea rubs a cloak with a magic ointment to kill the princess of Corinth. Medea then chops up her kids, abandons Jason in a chariot drawn by dragons.
