the social context of the story is world war one. This pertains to the characters because the main character is having a war inside himself

one theme of the story is pride because the brother wants to be proud of his brother so he pushed him past his limits

the narrator's internal conflict is the guilt the narrator now feels toward how he treated his brother and how hard he pushed him to be just like everyone else.

the narrator's motivation in the story is to have a normal brother that he can show off to everyone and also not be ashamed of.

the Scarlet Ibis is a symbol of how doodle and how he will later die. It symbolizes this because the Scarlet Ibis died a death away from his family and home abandoned because of the storm. This is he same for doodle because he died away from his house and his brother was the storm that he lead to his death.

There are other symbols in the story like the color red symbolize death and blood. It represents this through the Scarlet Ibis, the red dead birds is bad luck and doodle's death.

the story takes place in the past around the time of World War 1 and on a house that seems to be in the country around a lot of land.

the point of view of the story is first person and it effects the story by allowing us to see what the main character is thinking. It also allows us to see what the narrator thinks about doodle and why he makes him so the things he does.

the truth about humans it reveals is that we sometimes care more about ourselves than other people. Sometimes we just are fixed on what we want to that we are trying to do can harm other people.
