Earl Warren

served as attorney general from 1939-1943 in the US. he was the popular Republic governor of California from 1943-1953. he was competing with Dwight and Richard for President. there was controversy with him because he supported the Japanese Internment in 1942- Americans kept the Japanese in camps. he received the Republican nominee for Vice President in 1948. party leaders made a deal that if Warren supported Ike, then they would give Warren a spot in the Supreme Court. Warren supported Ike, and when Fred Vincen died in 1953 who was on Supreme Court died, Ike nominated Warren for the spot. Warren was not Ikes first choice. John Foster Dulles was his first choice on the spot for Supreme Court but Dulles denied and wanted Secretary of State. Warren ended up getting the Supreme Court spot for Chief Justice. Warren served from 1953-1969. Warren became one of the most activist and liberal judges so Eisenhower totally regretted electing Warren.

he was competing with Dwight and Earl for President. grew up middle class in Yorba Linda California. attended Whittier College in Socal and went to Duke Law School. he practiced law in the 1930s. he served in the South Pacific during WWII. he was elected to congress from California because he portrayed himself as a strong anti-communist in 1946. he made a name for himself during the Red Scare in the late 1940's. he accused Alger Hiss of spying for the Soviet Union who was the leader of the communist movement. he became US Senator from California in 1950. Nixon received the Vice Presidential nomination in 1952. he served from 1953-1961. doubts about keeping him on the ballot arose because he was accused of using the campaign money for his own use and because of that he went on TV with his family. "I am not a crook." He claimed that the only money that he took was for his dog "Checkers" and he could not give it back because his daughter Trisha loved the dog. because of his speech about his dog and daughter, his popularity rose.

in 1952 he competed against Earl Warren and Richard Nixon. he received the nomination after leaders of the Republican party promised jobs to Earl and Richard. in the election of 1952, Eisenhower was elected. because of McCarthyism and the events of communism that were happening in Korea, he was elected. people felt that Eisenhower protected them from communism. people liked that his friendly, sexy and had a grandfather appearance. they liked his war record and his American patrism. people who were very religious liked that he referenced God a lot. over 90% of America identified with some part of religion and over half attend church. 1950s was a religious revivalism after the Cold War or because people were scared of a nuclear holocaust. people disliked the Democratic party nominee because Adlai Stevenson, the governor of Illinois, was greatly disliked.

this happened after the Cold War and because people were scared of a nuclear holocaust. Norman Vincent Peale and Billy Gram reached huge audiences through books and television. The Catholic bishop Fulton Sheen also influenced huge audiences. Religious movies like the Ten Commandments influenced people. there were a lot of conservative political writers influencing people. Ike supported the act that added in the Pledge of Allegiance "One nation, under God". that same act added "In God we trust" to US currency. that was controversial because of the separation between church and state debate.
