Aiming to make people as independent as possible in spite of any residual impairment. Consists mainly of adaptation and compensatory strategies. Residual impairment is not fixed but alternatives are sought in order to engage in desired activities. -use of compensatory strategies for task or environment -level of motivation affects the extent to which an individual regains independence -environments in which daily activities are performed influence a person's motivation for independence -rehabilitation involves the teaching-learning process, therefore cognitive skills are needed to learn and apply compensatory strategies

Changing the activity demand to reduce or increase biomechanical, cognitive, sensory and/or social requirements

To promote physical attributes of work tolerance: requires repetition of the required movements for a prolonged period of time

Involves eliminating unnecessary tasks, combining necessary tasks, rearranging the sequence of tasks, and simplifying the tasks as much as possible

May include ADL devices such as dressing aids, mobility devices such as walkers and wheelchairs, as well as hardware, software, and peripherals that assist people with disabilities in accessing computers or other information technologies
